Improve integration with Excel - Import topology from Excel workbook

Believe or not, MS Excel is widely used by management and users to provide data about CIs and their relationships. Current integration is decent foundation but needs more to be usable.  We need the following features the most :

a) ability to delete CIs / relationships from Excel - currently the integration enables only to add or update CIs from Excel to UCMDB - but deletion of CIs is not possible. But life brings requests for deletion freqently and usualy the list of items to be deleted is .... in Excel

b) ability to add/update/delete objects whose UCMDB CIT identification is by identification rule using Excel values (and not relative Excel references) - current solution is almost impossible to use in real life ! Currently the integration is usable only when the CIs you want to import are in UCMDB identified by key attribute (an not by idetification rule) ! Theoretically it is somehow possible but not in real world- since if the CIs are identified by an identification rule then  Excel cells must contain relative references to values instead of values itself (e.g. when creating relationships, update Cis etc.) But people/users prepare Excels with values in cells and not with relative references to values. Considering that UCMDB uses identification rules (and not identification by key attribute) for main CITs (e.g. computers) it is pretty hard to use this integration with Excel. So it is. But she solution is easy - any CI attribut could be used as identifier provided that it is unique and if it is not unigue then this particlular line/s would be reported as identification error in integration log at runtime. And administrator can solve the "exceptions" manually.

Uff. Let's make CMS for its users, not for sterile labs.

Ivan 🙂

PS : I am attaching one typical  Excel from mamangement sayng what to update in UCMDB - the legend : red color - to be deleted, green color - to be updated. The computers are in UCMDB identified by rule, in Excel by hostnames (which are unique) Simple Excel, clear specification but with carent integration it is almost impossible  :((((
