Caliber Author fails to open with ‘Failed to create empty document’ error returned

Problem:

When trying to launch the Caliber Author the ‘Failed to create empty document’ message is thrown. Once you click on OK the Author will exit.

Resolution:

This error message can occur after upgrading from 2008 SP1/10.1 to Caliber 11.

The problem occurs due to the version of the ‘CaliberRMRes.dll’ that is being used. In some instances this file does not get updated on the upgrade to Caliber 11.

To resolve the error:

  1. Download the attached ‘CaliberRMRes.zip’ to the machine you have Caliber Author installed
  2. Navigate to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Borland\CaliberRM\en’ and rename the existing CaliberRMRes.dll to CaliberRMRes.dll.old
  3. Unzip ‘CaliberRMRes.zip’ into the same directory
  4. Launch Caliber Author

The installer problem that causes this error has been identified and will be resolved in the Caliber 11.1 release
