Configuring a listener port for SSL in CaliberRM 2005 R2

Configuring a listener port for SSL in CaliberRM 2005 R2

Problem:

Configuring a listener port for SSL in CaliberRM 2005 R2

Resolution:

Problem Description

I want to make use of the new SSL functionality in CaliberRM 2005 R2 but the listener port is created randomly even though I set it in the Control Panel.

Problem Resolution

The CaliberRM Server Port setting in the server"s Control Panel applet only applies to non-ssl listener ports. In CaliberRM 2005 R2 it is not possible to set an SSL port via the Control Panel. This has been fixed in SP1 but if you can"t upgrade follow these steps to specify a fixed listener port for SSL:

  1. Edit the server"s orb.properties file, by default found in c:\Borland\CaliberRMServer\Bin
  2. Look for the line:

    vbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.iiop_tp.listener.port=

and comment this out with a # character
  3. Add the following line:

    vbroker.se.iiop_tp.scm.ssl.listener.port=
  4. Save the orb.properties file and restart the CaliberRM server.

The server will now be listening on the specified ssl port.
