How do I change the database owner?

Problem:

How do I change the database owner?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: CaliberRM
  • Product Version: All
  • Product Component: Database
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000/2003 Server

CaliberRM only has one database owner. This user must be logged in to perfrom backups, restores and upgrades. To determine who the dbowner is, type dblist at a dos prompt. The creator is the owner. It is not possible to have 2 dbowners, but you can change the dbowner.

To change the dbowner, take the following steps.

  1. Login as the current database owner
  2. Backup the database: dbmgr -backup (At this stage Borland recommends restoring the backup to a test server to make sure all data is intact)
  3. Navigate to "\Borland\CaliberRMServer\Versant\DB\SQMDB" and copy the profile.be to a location you can access when logged in as the user you wish to be the new database owner
  4. Open command prompt and run: dbmgr -stop
  5. Then run: removedb -rmdir SQMDB
  6. Log off the machine
  7. Log on the machine as the person you want to be the new database owner
  8. Open command prompt and run: makedb SQMDB
  9. Then run: removedb SQMDB
  10. Now restore the backup you took at step 2: vbackup -dev "location of .bak file" -restore SQMDB
  11. Navigate to "\Borland\CaliberRMServer\Versant\DB\SQMDB" and replace the existing profile.be with the backup you took at step 3.
  12. Open command prompt and run: dbmgr -start
