How do I control the logging level of the Borland Search Server?

Problem:

How do I control the logging level of the Borland Search Server?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: Borland Search Server
  • Product Version: All
  • Product Component: Logging
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000/2003 Server

To change the logging level of the Borland Search Server:

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Borland\Borland Search\apache-tomcat-5.5.23\webapps\bss\config

  1. Right-click on cl.log4j.xml and open with Notepad
  2. Change the "level value" to any of the logging levels, mentioned below, for logger name equal to:
    "com.borland"
    "com.borland.produceconsume"
    "com.starbase.caliber"
    "com.starbase"

So for example if you wanted the log level set to TRACE you would modify the entry to look like follows:

  3. Save changes and restart Borland Search Server

Supported logging levels for Borland Search Server are:

OPTION DESCRIPTION
ALL Turn on all logging
TRACE Finer-grained informational events than DEBUG
DEBUG Informational events that are most useful to debug an application
INFO Informational messages that highlight the progress of the application at coarse-grained level
WARN Potentially harmful situations
ERROR Error events that might still allow the application to continue running
FATAL Designates very severe error events that will presumably lead the application to abort
OFF Turn off all logging
