Problem:

Proper security error with CaliberRM Java Client

Resolution:

Overview

When user attempts to logon to CaliberRM with the web client they receive the error message ?Unable to launch CaliberRM web, proper security was not granted to this applet.?

Details

When a user first attempts to login to the Caliber Web Client, they will be prompted to ?grant applet security permissions?. They should choose ?grant always?, if they have selected ?no?, the following resolutions will apply.

Resolution

Please verify the machines receiving the error have the proper version of the JAVA Plug in.

To check the version go to:

Start\Settings\Control Panel\Add Remove Programs and verify the JAVA 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition is 1.3.1_01 or 1.3.1_02

If it is not one of the above versions, please uninstall the JAVA 2 Runtime Environment.

After uninstalling it open a web browser and enter the name or IP address of the Caliber server.

The CaliberRM web index page is displayed, select JAVA Plug-In

The correct JAVA Plug In version will be installed.

Then try logging into the Caliber web again.

If this does not resolve the error, please try the following.

This is a secure way of working around this problem; it will grant access to applets from the web server that is hosting the CaliberRM client only.

Please update the java policy (Assuming the JRE was installed to the default location)

C:\Program files\javasoft\jre\1.3\lib\security\java.policy

This is a text file and can be opened in Notepad or WordPad.

Insert the following at the top of this file:

grant codeBase "http:///-" {permission java.security.AllPermission;};

where is replace it with the name of the CaliberRM Web server.

Also, you can refer to the following URL on granting permissions:

Old KB# 16122
