Problem:

VSTS: Exception ?Requested registry access is not allowed? is displayed when you attempt to expand the Requirements node.

Resolution:

Version: Build 8.1.488 of CaliberRM for Team Foundation Server.

The CaliberRM web service running on the application server is trying to write to the Event log. The Microsoft .NET documentation states that you need to create an Event Source before attempting to write to the Event Log. Creating an Event Source writes to the registry but the TFSSERVICE user does not have sufficient rights to create the Event Source.

To resolve this problem, you need to create the Event Source manually. Please log in as an Administrator on the TFS machine. Attached to this article is a .NET program that will create the necessary Event Source. Download the attachment and run it from a console window. For example, you should see the following output if the Event Source is successfully created.

>CreateCaliberRMEventLogSource.exe
Creating Source: CaliberRM Integration Service
Source created successfully

Once you have successfully created the Event Source, you will have the following key in your registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Eventlog\Application\CaliberRM Integration Service

Please try expanding the Requirements node again. You may need to logout and login back in to your Visual Studio client in order to expand the tree.

This issue will be resolved in a future version of the installer.

Please be aware that this error condition is usually followed by a Database error. This is a new problem and you should follow the instructions in the KB article entitled ?VSTS: Exception ?Database ?CaliberRM? already exists? or an error with regards to the lack of permissions to create a database is encountered.?
