Why do Excel worksheets embedded in a requirement description not update correctly?

Why do Excel worksheets embedded in a requirement description not update correctly?

Problem:

Why do Excel worksheets embedded in a requirement description not update correctly?

Resolution:

  • Product name: CaliberRM
  • Product Version: 2006/2008
  • Product component: Win32 Client
  • Platform/OS version: All

This problem occurs when you perform the following steps:

  1. Within a requirement description, right click and select object
  2. Next, choose Create new Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet and select ok
  3. Enter information into a number of cells and then select save
  4. Now redit the object by right clicking on it and choose edit
  5. Add information into new cells and the save
  6. If you look at the excel table within the requirement, you will see that it has not been updated

The problem is due to how Excel handles OLE objects. The following is a workaround:

  1. Right click in the requirement description, choose object and create Microsoft Word object
  2. In this new document choose Insert | object and then pick Microsoft Excel Worksheet
  3. Enter your data, save and then close the Word document

You should now see the excel sheet in the CaliberRM requirement description. If you now edit this, any changes will be correctly shown.
