Why does DocFactory generate the error, "Word encountered an error parsing the xml file"

Problem:

Why does DocFactory generate the error, "Word encountered an error parsing the xml file"

Resolution:

  • Product name: CaliberRM
  • Product version: 2008
  • Product component: DocFactory
  • Platform/OS version: All

You can receive this error if you update the Table of Contents in your DocFactory template and then use it with DocFactory 2.

It is possible to recover most of the template, though you will lose all formatting. To recover the template do the following:

  1. In the corrupted template remove the table of contents.
  2. Select all within the document and choose copy.
  3. Open up a new Word document.
  4. Go to EDIT | PASTE SPECIAL | Select UNFORMATTED TEXT

This should copy all of the DocFactory syntax into the new document.

If you now save the document as a template and run it through DocFactory2 it will work. However, you need to edit the template to include a table of contents and format the content appropriately.
