Why does the LDAP connection fail when using Windows Authentication?

Why does the LDAP connection fail when using Windows Authentication?

Problem:

Why does the LDAP connection fail when using Windows Authentication?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: CaliberRM
  • Product Version: 2006
  • Product Component: LDAP
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000/2003 Server

If the "Windows Authentication" checkbox is checked (see screen shot below), the LDAP user who is currently running the Caliber Server/Database service(s) will be used for the bind Caliber Server/Database service(s) (NTLM authentication).

NTLM authentication can fail due to the LDAP server not allowing anonymous logins.

This can be resolved however by specifying a different user for the bind, using basic authentication. To setup basic authentication:

  1. Uncheck the Windows Authentication check box
  2. Enter the distinguished name of the user in the BindDN field and their LDAP password in the BindPW
