(CO) Support Tip: How do you determine the correct Event Type for CO?

Hello CO Community,

Since many of you use CO to collect events from VMware to send to OMi, it can be difficult to determine the Event Type for your desired events.

As you all know, the VIEventTypes.cfg file is used to filter what events are retrieved from VMware by CO and then also used by the vPV-EventMonitor policy to forward to OMi.  How can you determine the correct event type to add to this file?

The Event Type is determined by VMware.  A list of most of the VMware Event Types is available at the following two URLs.

https://pubs.vmware.com/vi3/sdk/ReferenceGuide/index-do_types.html
http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/index.jsp#com.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc/index-do_types.html

An additional way to determine the Event Type is to perform an SQL query of the event table (VPX_EVENT) within the VMware database.

Once the VMware Event Type is found, it can be added to the VIEventTypes.cfg file.

More information with SQL query examples is available within the following knowledge article.

I hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great week!

Regards,

Mark
