(CO) Support Tip: LDAP Look Up User button returns errors within CO

Hello CO Community!

For those that use LDAP authentication, there is an occasional issue that comes up where the 'Look Up User" feature fails with an error.  When this issue occurs, it is important to review the full error message when attempting to troubleshoot the issue.

Simply by the fact that you are able to successfully perform the LDAP Look Up User option means that the LDAP server with User ID and Password are correct.

Here are two common messages:

  • Could not find the user with given name.
  • User found however the user is not part of Admin or non admin group.

These two messages indicate two different problem areas within your LDAP configuration.

"User Found" means that the user is found within LDAP, but is not within the authorized groups.  The "Could not find the user" message means that it could not find the user within LDAP.  The user may be within LDAP but it may be that the user is known by a different reference.

Do you have LDAP configured to use "Search Filter" for CN (Common Name) or sAMAccountName?  Which choice is made could make a difference.

Example:
CN = CO User
sAMAccountName = couser

More information about different options can be found within the following knowledge article.

KM02811927 - LDAP User Look Up within Cloud Optimizer fails with "User found however the user is not part of Admin or non admin group."

I hope that this informaiton is helpful.

Have a great weekend!

Regards,

Mark

Hello,

As far as I remember, in the Admin ID an d Password box, left of the "Save" button, you must specify a CO administrator. So make sure to specify an account that is member of the specified Administrator Groups DN or listed in the Admin Names.

Thierry.
