Data transfer from Vsphere 6.7 to Cloud Optimizer

Jump to solution

Hello there !

I'm testing data collection from physical servers and from Vsphere 6.7 to the Cloud Optimizer (CO was installed via OVA (Cloud_Optimizer_3.02_Virtual_Appliance_HPECO_VA_3.02.004_OVF10.ova) appliance on VMware ESXi 6.5) and have enabled the 60 day trial at demo lab.

A problenm is CO could not show collected information from sites (VMs working under server 2016) Vsphere 6.7

No statisctics, no graph are showed, just nothing 😞

Please advise what steps need to do, to fix that problems.

Thank you.

Hello Pavel S,

I hope that you don't mind that I moved your post from the Hybrid Cloud User Discussions to the Cloud Optimizer User Discussions.

Let me help by providing a few items to check and confirm.

Check the /var/opt/OV/log/status.virtserver log file for error messages.

There are often issues with data collections related the the MaxQuery size.  Here is a knowledge article that will help explain some information.

KM02945185 - Recommended settings for the vCenter (maxQueryMetrics, statistics levels, collectPreAggregatedIntervalFactor) for optimal metrics collection by Cloud Optimizer
https://softwaresupport.softwaregrp.com/km/KM02945185

There is a utility created by support to help collect CO log files as well as tracing information.  This utility is called the Cloud Optimizer troubleshooting toolkit (PVTK) and the actual base script is pvsupport.sh.

This utility can be found at the following location on the HPE Software Support Portal:
https://softwaresupport.softwaregrp.com/km/KM02600579

There are some known issues with CO 3.02 for which there are hotfixes available.  You may consider upgrading to CO 3.03 or 3.04.

There is a another factor to consider is that it appears that VMware 6.7 is not officially supported by Cloud Optimizer yet.  It will probably still work, but it is something to consider.

Without looking at the log files (status.virtserver) it would be difficult to determine the cause.

I hope that this information is helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Update CO to 3.04 just to be sure. there are often fixes in new reelase that are not documented.

then check with PVTK tool if metrics for this servers are collected.

Hi there !

First of all - Thanks guys for answers !

A new installation Cloud Optimizer, Version: 03.04.004 solved problem with VMware 6.7.  Works fine.

But I have a question about licensing.

I've got a license via Evaluation & Demo License Download Portal with the same IP address as VM Appliance Cloud Opt already have. If I trying to put a key into it a system sending me an error: License is not valid. What im doing wrong ? Incorrect license key ?

Hello Pavel S,

There are multiple ways to add a license to the server.

Sometimes using the UI can be an issue because extra characters may be included as part of the process.

Here is another way that you can add a license to your CO environment.

Modify the /var/opt/OV/conf/perf/PVAutopassDataDir/LicFile.txt file.

This is the actual license file that is used by the product.  Be sure to back up the existing file before modifying it.

The license key is a single line entry that may wrap.  Be aware that it needs to be single line.

If adding the license key to the file directly and restarting the application still does not work, then open a support case so that we can confirm that your specific license is valid for your host (Ex. IP).

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Mark

Hello Craig,

Unfortunately, the answer is no.  VMware vCenter 6.7 is still not officially supported.

It appears that the request has been added to the Idea Exchange.  It's state is still "Waiting for Votes".  You can add your vote to it.
