I am pleased to announce that this week GroupWise 18 is shipping. For customers on maintenance or with a valid subscription GroupWise 18 should now be available in your customer center. With the Release of GroupWise 18 I am also pleased to announce the availability of Micro Focus Enterprise Messaging.

Micro Focus Enterprise Messaging is an upgrade available to GroupWise customers that was announced last fall at Techconnect 2017. Enterprise Messaging brings GroupWise, TeamWorks, and all of the products from the GWAVA Acquisition including Retain, Secure Messaging Gateway (formerly GWAVA Gateway), GroupWise Disaster Recovery (Reload), GroupWise Monitoring (Redline), GroupWise Forensics (Reveal), and GroupWise Mailbox Management (Vertigo) into a single offering for a competitive price.

TeamWorks 18 is a brand new addition to the collaboration family that is also released this week. TeamWorks is an integral component of Micro Focus Enterprise Messaging. If you haven't heard of this new addition please visit the website: https://www.microfocus.com/products/enterprise-messaging/features/teamworks/

One of the most important components of this release that I can't stress enough to customers is that this release delivers on the continued Micro Focus commitment to GroupWise and its future. This release starts a new support life cycle that has a minimum 3 years of mainstream support. For more information on the Micro Focus support policy please visit the support policy page https://www.microfocus.com/support-and-services/product-support-lifecycle-policy/

One of the key features of this release is the integration of Messenger into the GroupWise admin console. This has been one of our Top requested features. So now you have a web based administration tool for Messenger, and support for Microsoft Active Directory in addition to eDir and the local GroupWise directory.

In future posts and some upcoming webinars we will introduce you to more of the new features of GroupWise 18 including, Social Threading, Additional Filr integrations, new client UI and improved client customization and more.

I did want to mention the Ideas forum and the role it continues to play with each release. With the release of GroupWise 18, TeamWorks 18 and Micro Focus Enterprise Messaging we were able to mark over a dozen direct Ideas as completed across these products. Ideas will continue to be a source of influence on what features should be in each release. Over the next couple of weeks as we lock in on our plans for the next release of GroupWise I will start marking those ideas as planned in the Ideas forum. https://ideas.microfocus.com/MFI/mf-gw

So whats next? In the first QTR of 2018 our plan is to release GroupWise 18.0.1 & TeamWorks 18.0.1. This support pack will be targeted directly at maintenance and customer reported issues. We understand that many customers will wait until the first support pack before upgrading to 18, so we want to make sure we release in a timely manner.

In the second half for 2018 our plan will be to release GroupWise 18.1. This release will have new features and enhancements included in the release. A main theme of this release will focus on tighter integration with the products we acquired from GWAVA, including Retain, Secure Messaging Gateway (formerly GWAVA Gateway), GroupWise Disaster Recovery (Reload), GroupWise Monitoring (Redline), GroupWise Forensics (Reveal), and GroupWise Mailbox Management (Vertigo). Stay tuned for more specific details in future posts.

Still no new Groupwise Mac client..... MF have lost three of my customers to O365/Exchange because of that alone.

I just started reviewing the Teamworks docs...it appears to overlap Messenger and Filr. Do you have documentation that explains the feature sets and/or differences between the three? That would definitely be helpful. Thanks!

I was able to download the update a few days ago. Maybe your products portal is not updated (yet). If not (at all) contact entitlements@microfocus.com

Will the 2018 Client run on 2014 R2 ?

No, the client version must always be equal or lower verses the backend GroupWise version. So you can still use your 2014 R2 clients case you decide to upgrade your backend to version 18.

I thought the GroupWise Mobility server allowed Outlook users to use Outlook with a GroupWise backend via ActiveSync. They could have used Outlook as just a client, and still not paid for Exchange and kept a better (in my opinion) GroupWise backend. Exchange is a server product that you pay for many times over (the Windows Server OS, Exchange itself, Exchange access licenses, then you pay for Office as Exchange doesn't give you Outlook as a client)
