Today I am pleased to announce that the long-awaited release of the Micro Focus Secure Messaging Gateway (SMG) on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is now released and available to customers.
This release marks a significant change in the architecture of SMG and will make deployment, administration and use of SMG more efficient for our customers. It also puts SMG on the same common appliance infrastructure as other Micro Focus products that you are already familiar with. These products include Filr for secure file sharing; iPrint for printing across the enterprise and platforms from any device; TeamWorks, for helps your teams communicate and collaborate more effectively using their mobile phones, web browsers, and more. This has been a top enhancement request from our customers and partners since Micro Focus acquired GWAVA and I am pleased it is now available. Check out the new features!
For our customers on Maintenance this update is available to you know. Since this will be a new appliance on a new platform there will be a migration involved. Please be sure to check out the documentation and plan your update. For customers on the Ubuntu version of SMG, you will need to apply the October 2019 update before moving to this new version. The October update contains the migration utility to move from the Ubuntu appliance to the SLES appliance.
With this release there are two significant events in which customers need to be aware. First and foremost, this will be the version of SMG going forward that all patches and updates will be provided on. Customers on SMG on the Ubuntu appliance we highly encourage you to update to this version ASAP.
The second significant event of this release is it marks the end of life for the GWAVA 6.5 gateway. The 6.x version was shipped in 2015 and has been beyond its lifecycle for some time. We made a commitment to customers to keep supporting the 6.5 version until the SLES appliance was released. That day is here. We will continue to support GWAVA 6.5 version through February 29, 2020. At that time GWAVA 6.5 support will cease. This timeframe gives you several months to plan for and update to the latest version of SMG.
For all customers, those on GWAVA 6.5 and SMG 7 on Ubuntu security updates such as the AV files for anti-virus, malware, spam etc, will continue. We do highly encourage all customers to plan their upgrades ASAP and join us on the latest version of Micro Focus Secure Messaging Gateway on SLES. If you are not currently a customer, get a free 30-day trial of Secure Messaging Gateway.
Happy Halloween everyone!
