Administrator rights

I have an app to copy a file to the c:/windows directory. The local user does not have admin rights to the PC, so therefore the file does not copy. How do I get the app to run with administrator rights?.

Set it to run as "system" or "dynamic administrator". See executable security level:

Re: Administrator rights

I am experiencing the same problem. I have tried your suggestions AndersG however I then receive another error as the administrator doesn't have rights to access the source files on our network. Windows 8 is not playing nice. Any other tips are very much appreciated.

If you are copying from network share with dynamic administrator rights then you need to use UNC path to the source file and also specify network credentials it should use.

Or you don't, and upload the file into ZCM andlet it distribute from
there instead of copying it from somewhere outside.

Yes that is much better way doing it, if it's possible in this particular use case.

Re: Administrator rights

Michelle79,

when you select dynamic administrator, you have the option of selecting
a stored credential to use for network access - you can use an ID that
*does* have rights to that directory. The Credential Vault is at the
bottom of the Configuration page

Re: Administrator rights

You know what guys... it works... if I use the UNC path to a server and not the DFS! Why is it so?

Can you provide a concrete example? Ie what paths work (from, to) and
what paths do not?

Re: Administrator rights

Hi Anders,

Sorry to mislead you... After further testing it appears I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Something else must have caused my prior testing to fail. DFS is working ok.

I now have the Install Files action set up run by the secure system user and this is working. Thanks for your help.

Note: The only way "Secure System User" would work for copying a Network file is if the Domain Workstation Object was assigned rights.
