Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

Is this only an eval version? I have the ZCM10 Enterprise edition, and this one item is an eval only, and no one at Novell seems to be able to figure out why, or where to get an activation key. Is is just that it is only an eval, not a real program yet? I've been working with Tyler in the Novell Activation Center, and also Kelli Booth, but neither has come up with an answer. Anyone else seeing this on their ZCM10 Enterprise?

It actually expires on Saturday.....

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

I doubt it's a real program yet.
Unless you are currently inventorying Linux boxes, I would not be concerned.

That is not for inventorying Windows Devices from a Unix box.
Basically, ZCM was supposed to manage both Linux and Windows Devices when it
shipped.
Due to time constraints, Novell focused on managing Windows Devices first
and shipped that portion first.

Most likely in 8-14months Novell will start supporting the management of
Linux devices with ZCM and ZAI for UNIX/Linux would then
be available.

you need to buy seperate licenses for linux inventory as that part of the
product is being done by a 3rdparty afaik and has to be reimbursed..

that could change when we see linux support in zcm but I don't know

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

Marcus and Craig,
Sounds like what Craig is saying is more correct. Since I have purchased the Enterprise edition, there are no other separate licenses to buy, everything is included in that version. I've heard others say what Craig said, that it's actually not supported yet. Now why would it be included w/o a statement to that effect, I don't know. Even a better question, how come with so many people I've spoken to at Novell, not one has actually told me that? Do they just not want to admit it, or what? But I think I know it already. And yes, I was inventorying Linux machines. I guess I'll have to pick that up when the product is truly a full product.

Thanks for the responses!

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

I'm glad you finally got a good answer.
I don't think folks at Novell were trying to avoid the answer,
I suspect it was just some confusion regarding the new product and all of
it's components.
I know you were initially asking during Brainshare, which sometimes can make
getting an anwer more difficult since many people in the know
are busy all week and tough to get in touch with.

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

Hello, the eval licenses for ZCM Asset management and Asset Inventory are expired. We have ZCM the standard version and no plans to upgrade or get licenses for those products. And every time I login in to the ZCM console(browser) we get a notification for it, it is very annoying! is there a way to stop ZCM from warning us that the licenses are expired every time we login?

Thank you in advance

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

I think the only way you can get rid of the notification is to renew them.

Re: Asset Inventory for Unix/Linux

There are some patches coming along to allow you to disable that warning.
I don't have an exact time line, however.
