Can I run two zcm zones simultaneously

I have a zcm 11.4.2 and I'm having some issues upgrading. The main error is a 206

com.novell.zenworks.configure.ConfigureException: Cannot run program "E:\ZENworks Configuration Management\Novell\ZENworks\share\java/bin/java": CreateProcess error=206, The filename or extension is too long

The inherited installed path for zcm is a bit on the long side and I haven't found anything yet that will show me how to reduce the path and still maintains the ZCM.

My main reason is to upgrade is to get to the latest version and roll out windows 10. If I can't get the upgrade to work, I've had an idea to create a new zcm zone and use that for my windows 10. Leave the other zone intact until I we are done with windows 7. I'd use a new zone name of course.

I realise that I would have to recreate my app bundles (about 150-200). They are all network based not in content repo. I would also have to recreate printer

policies.

I guess I am wondering if this is a sensible plan and if so should I favour the appliance over windows 2016?

When you say two zones, are you talking about within the same system or
as two separate ZCM systems? As part of one upgrade we did have the
two separate systems and migrated work stations over to the new one.
The thing of note is that a managed device can only be in one zone at a
time.

I would guess that the path error relates to a bundle or related point
to the E: is that a share?
The fact that there are both types of slashes in the path could be the
root cause and I would expect the bundle in question is showing errors.

Re: Can I run two zcm zones simultaneously

Yes you can have two zones running side by side.
The primary limitation would be Imaging...Since you cannot have to Proxy DHCP Servers running on the same subnet....

Is your Current Windows Primary 2008 or 2012?
It will need to be 2012 for the upgrade to work.

What may be simpler is to do the following...
#1 - Install 2nd 2012 Primary To your Zone.
#2 - Let things sit for a week or 2.
#3 - Follow Steps in the Docs for Retiring the 1st Server from your Zone.
#4 - Upgrade New Server with a more standard path....though the current patch does not seem much longer than having "Program Files (x86)" as the root folder....

Re: Can I run two zcm zones simultaneously

HI Thomas,

How about creating a soft link to "E:\ZENworks Configuration Management\Novell\ZENworks" folder and set ZENWORKS_HOME variable to point to soft link.
