Can you upgrade to IE8 via ZPM?

Hello all,

I wanted to know if it's possible to use ZPM to upgrade Internet Explorer from an earlier version to say IE8?

If so:
How does it work; will you need to some prerequisites?
Can you customize the install or will it just deploy the update?
Will you be forced to the latest version; say if IE9 or later is available?Or can you pick the version of the patches you want to deploy?

Thanks,
Soroush

Re: Can you upgrade to IE8 via ZPM?

In ZPM you can select the version of IE that is available to be installed on
your devices. For example I see the following available to me in ZPM.

MS 982861 Internet Explorer 9.0 (See Notes)
66 1
Internet Explorer 8.0 (See Notes) (Rev 2) Software Installer
28 1
Internet Explorer 7.0 (SEE NOTES) (Rev 3) Software Installer
29 0
Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (full auto-install) (Rev 2)
Software Installer 28 0

The numbers show me that most of my machines are updated to the latest
version. With only 2 that could be updated. I would then select the patch
and then ‘deploy remediation’ to the devices I select. If you wanted to
customize the install you would have to create your own bundle to do that.
I just install the vanilla version via Patch Management and then use group
policies to tweak it the way I want it. The notes usually will give you
info on prerequisites required.
