Choice of Database

Hi all,

We are migrating ZEN7 to ZCM 11.2. A decision to make is the choice of database. Is the choice of database back-end for ZCM (11.x) only depending on the devices it handles? We have about 1.200 devices it has to manage. So, it could be Sybase. Also, it's included with ZCM. But when I think of in-house experience, troubleshooting capabilities it should be MS-SQL.

I have no experience in working with databases. The only thing I can do is connecting to it...

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Choice of Database

If i may, i would suggest an external DB, allowing for multiple primaries without having to remember which one has the sybase DB on it.

so if ms-sql is where your companies experience lies than that should be sufficient justification. Ours is Oracle, but only because our main applications are Oracle based.

from the doco "You should use a dedicated server for the ZENworks database to ensure that the available resources for the database are known and are under control."

For < 1000 devices, internal sybase
for < 3000 devices, external sybase
for > 3000 devices, MSSQL or Oracle

If you have licenses for Oracle or MSSQL and a DBA on site, then go for
that.
