Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

I applied the Cumulative Agent Patch 1 using method 2 to update the deployment packages and manually and in both cases I am unable to register or unregister an updated device the the zone. The manually upgraded device was still working, but could not be unregistered. The new device could not register. In both cases I get error -28:
----
Processing Command: unr

Unable to unregister the device with the server.
Service Error. code: -28, message: InternalDataModelException occurred
deleting device:
com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.ObjectNotFoundException:
db817ca137812149a49476c51a8286a9
Try later or use the -f option to force a local only unregistration.
----

How can I find what the object is that it is looking for? I did try method 1 to update the system update. I removed the existing one, but am unable to get the modified update imported.

When is sp1 supposed to be out?

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

I had the same problem today after using Method 2. I went back through the process and found I had not copied all msi packages and I had forgotten to copy the new setup exe. After coping all the files and rebuilding the packages it is now working.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked multiple times and it looks like I have all the right files in place.

JRM,

If you drop me a note at Craig_D_Wilson@Yahoo.Com, I will send you a
tool to try and help verify if the agent has all the correct files
installed.

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

Note,

It appears that the patched Device Contains all of the Proper DLLs/EXEs.
There were a few files missing that were on my device, but that appear
to be related to not having all of the Agent Features installed/enabled.

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

I just noticed that my test machines (we have 10.3.1 in production) with the unpatched 11 agent appear to be registered and working on the client side, but I am unable to locate them in ZCC. I am guessing this suggests the problem isn't with the patched agent so much as with my server configuration. Would the fact that I deleted the zenworks 11 update (and haven't been able to import it back) have anything to do with it?

I ran the zdc against both servers and other than some old content issues the only errors I see are due to patched files I have installed. What is the next step to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

You can patch the agents w/o patching the servers or doing anything but
manually applying the updated MSIs/EXE on the device.

So there appears to be some issue with the Straight 11.0 Agent as well
as with the patched 11.0 Agent.

This does indicate there may be some server/db issue.

For Starters, Try running a ZDC Report on your Server(s).

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

Here are my two reports:

ZENworks Diagnostic Center
ZENworks Diagnostic Center

I only updated the client files on the server "zenworks" so the errors are different. "Zenworks" is also older as I just added "zen" a few months ago. Most of the errors are content related so I assume they are not critical to this registration issue.

(on a side note, is there a procedure to rename these servers?)

can you tell me what the problem looks like? I wrote those
instructions, so I'd like to make sure they're clear...

11.1 should be out sometime in the summer, if all goes well

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

I copy the Common folder off the install dvd, update the files like your instructions say, and sftp it to the server. I then run the sui command:

---
zen:/tmp # zman sui /tmp/Common/

Username:admin
Password:********

The update(s) contained in /tmp/Common/ will begin importing shortly. You may use ZCC to track the status of your import
---

After this I never see anything happen. How long should it take for the update to show up in ZCC? After waiting overnight I did see the update in ZCC with an error status saying the update was corrupt. I removed that this morning and recopied all the files, imported it again, and now I again have no results. Should it take many hours?

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

Jrmhscht,

this import should show up within a few seconds. If nothing shows up
then zman log and loader-messages.log should be examined for clues...

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

Thanks Shaun. I looked at the logs and realized the updates.xml file had an uppercase extension so it could not be found. I fixed that and am now getting "The downloaded system update files appear to be corrupted. Try to re-download the update again." in ZCC. Here is the error from loader-messages.log:

[DEBUG] [5/2/11 11:25:10 AM] [] [Loader.SystemUpdateModule] [] [FINEST: Updated update (5011000000d18c113224186fa9b4efc5) status to ERROR] [] []

The MD5sum on my zenworks11.iso file is correct. Can I just replace the checksum in the update.xml file? How is it calculated?

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Re: Cumulative Agent Patch 1 registration problem

I am having trouble with registration as well. Accidently deleted a room folder of computers and now I cant re-register - followed option 2 as well with cumulative patch 1 - this installs on the computers and looking at services-messages.log the registration web service is reporting [Registration Web Service] [] [registerDevice complete, time: 32ms, code: -28, device: 5eab8bb7b6437648b8d488411c7afd8e, thread: 6274] [] []

I have not done the option 1 yet of the cumulative patch.

How can we fix this registration issue the room is useless without going through the process - thanks.
