Decompression errors

Hi,

we are finding that during a multicast session only that the imaging
is
failing due to this error "Decompression error occurred." We know the

image is fine due to the fact that we can build using the same image
in a
single image download with no problems. The pcs then reboot but
complain
about not finding HAL.DLL this has happened on a few PC's of different

hardware types in different locations. The error is not a consistant
one
but tends to happen with 8+ machines more frequently. My initial
thoughts
are the network and i am still investigating. However, if anyone else
is
seeing this problem as i know that in a patch has been released in
previous versions of zenworks to address these kinds of problems. any

thoughts.

Re: Decompression errors

Barry,

did you build this image using ZCM, or is it an old image?

Re: Decompression errors

Barnd new images created using zcm 10.0.0, and obviously distributed
them
using zcm too.

Re: Decompression errors

Although this call is still assigned to engineering now with the states.
Further testing has produced the possibility that multicasting across
multiple vlans from within a vmware machine is looking to be the cause of
this problem. We have a senior consultant on site to install ZCM on a
standard server non vmware machine with the new product version to see if
this is the case. If the multicasting works then i think we can make an
assumption that the above configuration is not a viable option with ZCM?

Re: Decompression errors

Still waiting, the consultant is working on a packet trace and the cisco
config files have been forwarded to Novell for analysis. It could be
environmental. it ios proving to be a tough nut to crack.

FYI we are seeing this error frequently too. I have a lab with 46
computers, and during a multicast session with ZCM when attempting to
reimage the entire lab, several will fail with decompression errors. With
ZenWorks 7, we could successfully reimage the entire lab with no problems.
Network configuration is the same as in ZenWorks 7.

Re: Decompression errors

Was there ever an effective resolution for this? I'm seeing imaging errors that may be related to this problem.

Re: Decompression errors

I'm also seeing this error when trying to multicast 20 Machines. The image itself is fine, i am currently restoring it to the 20 machines manually, but it always fails with decompression errors when multicasting.
