Disable screensaver during a image deployment

Hi,

Is possible to disable the screensaver (power management) feature on a workstation during the deployment of an image with the ZENworks Imaging Engine?
After update to ZCM 11.4.2 the preboot kernel changed to SLES12 and now the workstations turn off the screen while the image is being deployed.
With ZCM 11.3 we didn't have this behavior.

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

Jlrodriguez,

11.4.2 doesn't change to SLEs 12, but the May Imaging update does...
you may want to open a SR, but I can confirm this behaviour

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

Thanks a lot for your answers.

What makes more sense? acpi=off or consoleblank=0?

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

See TID - Note: During Image Restore, screens may blank after 600 seconds. See - https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7017713

My initial instinct was to suggest acpi=off as a broad stroke suggestion.
My Imaging Linux Guru said the reason this occurs now is due to the change in the default value for consoleblank.
(Note: This change was LIKELY unintentional, but there has been no official response to the report I created today based on this forum post.)

I presume if the only concern is the blanking of the screen, then the consoleblank=0 may be the best option.

If you want to ensure no type of power saving occurs, then perhaps acpi=off may be best.
I have seen where acpi=off both resolves and causes issues, though both cases are the exception.

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

try adding the Linux Boot Parameter acpi=off

This is added the same places as "NEWID" info.

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

Use the Kernel Parameter of ‘consoleblank=0’.
That was the old value. The new Value is 600.

I will update this thread more shortly.

Re: Disable screensaver during a image deployment

Craigdwilson,

brilliant: thanks. When we add support for the May update (see
https://www.engl.co.uk/blogs/220-so-zcm-11-4-2-is-out ) we'll make sure
that the TID is referenced...
