Google Earth Pro Silent Install

I have created a bundle to push out Google Earth Pro silently. I was able to extract the .MSI file from the executable. I created the bundle, but I receive an error when running the bundle on a workstation. The error states: "CachedItemError (Google Earth Pro). There was an error that occurred during an action for bundle Google Earth Pro. Would you like to automatically verify this bundle and attempt the action again?"

I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. When I run the googleearthpro.msi /qn command in the command prompt, it installs without issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Have you tried changing who the bundle installs as? User, Dynamic
User, or System?

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

Yes. I have tried running it as a secure system user. When I choose this option, the bundle shows being launched, but it never installs the software. No error codes are given.
I've tried both "logged in user" and "dynamic administrator", each of them failing with the MSI switches dialogue box coming up.

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

I'm sorry. The CACHEDITEMERROR does not come up anymore. Now the MSI switches dialogue box comes up. I hope this makes sense.

Are you using Install MSI action or Launch executable?

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

I'm using Launch Executable
I've tried using an MSI action, but that didn't work as well
The strange thing is, I was able to use the .MSI file, using the /qn switch when I use the command prompt. When I put it in zenworks as an MSI launch, I get errors.

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

The Cached Item Error indicates a possible issue with the "Content".
Recommend Upgrading to 17.2 if you are on an earlier version...that fixes some content issues.

What are you using for "Launch Executable"? For "Command line parameters"?
What do the install files exist?

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

Well, we are only up to 11.4.2 for ZCC. It's possible that some of these issues won't be resolved until we upgrade to 17.2
The command is \\server share\Google Earth MSI\GoogleEarth-Pro.msi
and the command line parameters are
msiexec GoogleEarth-Pro.msi /q

Try,
change the commandline to: msiexec \\server\Google Earth MSI\GoogleEarth-Pro.msi
And set /q as commandline parameter

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

I set the command line to msiexec \\server\Google Earth MSI\GoogleEarth-Pro.msi
the Command Lline Parameter is /q
I receive the Windows Installer Dialogue box which usually means I have an incorrect switch.
I tried using the /qn switch, but that didn't work either.

sorry for being a pain

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

Command line is: MSIEXEC.exe (Executable Only Goes Here...)
Command line is "/i \\server\Google Earth MSI\GoogleEarth-Pro.msi /q"

However, I would likely recommend using the "Install Network MSI" bundle action .
Prior, I suspect you used "Install MSI".
The latter imports the install into the Content-Repo system and your issue was likely there. (Many Content issues fixed in ZCM 17.2)
Network MSI will pull the install from a share (Or Local File System...does not HAVE to be network...)

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

Thank you Craig
I tried your method of launching the exe, but it failed. It simply doesn't launch. I tried to create a new .MSI launch for the program, but I get the CACHEDITEMERROR when launching the bundle.

I'll wait until we upgrade to 17.2
Thank you everyone for your help and input.

Re: Google Earth Pro Silent Install

Not sure there is any reason why you would wait for 17.2

May want to open a Ticket so they can assist you further with bundles, but this should be somewhat simple...........

Launch Executable has 3 basic parts...
#1 - The Name and path to the Executable. (Think MSIEXEC.exe)
#2 - The Parameters you pass to the executable. (Think /? to see all possible things here....)
#3 - Impersonation....This could be User, System, or Dynamic Administrator. (Consider a Dir Copy to local to make rights easier with elevation)
(Note: I can't see why anyone would use Launch Executable in this fashion....see below)

Again however....you missed this simplest and best way to do this...."Install Network MSI"
This will let you point to the network share, if run as user...the rights automatically elevate for MSIs....or you can easily use Dynamic Administrator if it is the rare MSI that calls external functions that also need elevating.
