How add additional Software

Hello all

I'm new to ZAM, so sorry in advance if this question is a RTFM-Question (I
read it almost).

I've installed and configured ZAM on a Server (7.50.0019) and also the
agents on the Clients. Anything works fine, I can view the Clients
(including Hardware, some Software, etc) in the Browser. So far so good,
but: my company management would like to have a list with ANY Software
"installed" on the Clients (every exe, bat, cmd, etc. that is on a client,
doesn't matter if it has an installation oder someone just copied the exe
to his Computer).

Is there a possibility to configure ZAM, so that every executable File is
scanned and not just the files from the Pruduct Recognition.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Andre

Re: How add additional Software

Look up "Local Product", "FNI", "file not identified" and "Software Files"
in the FM 🙂

In the Manager they are referred to as FNIs, in the Web Console as
Software Files.

You configure the Collection Option Set(s) to scan .EXEs and additional
file extensions you choose.

Be aware that this can make the database grow VERY large, if for instance
you choose .JPG, .MP3 etc. as there may be hundreds of thousands or even
millions of these, depending on the size of your network.

Also browse through previous threads on this list.

Re: How add additional Software

Hello

Thank you very much for your answer. I've already checked the Collect
Software File Information Box and any checkbox beneath and added the
extensions cmd, com and bat. In the FNI-Query, I can see any Software but
when I have a look to a client, the software isn't listed. Do I have to
insert the software listed in the FNI Query to the Local Products Catalog
first, before the software is shown under the clients?

Regards
André

Re: How add additional Software

"but when I have a look to a client, the software isn't listed"

By this, do you mean under the individual workstation record in the Web
Console? (ie the screen showing login name, Serial Number, IP address,
hardware, software etc for an individual machine)

The files will not show here, only fingerprinted products recognised by
ZAM.

This wouldn't be practical in many cases - what are the benefits of
listing possibly hundreds or even thousands of unidentified files on each
PC?

(You may as well just type dir *.EXE /s on the PC)

You need to go to the Software Files report - I think it's under Reports -
to see these files. This is intended to allow you to create Local
Products but you can also look for individual files if you want to.
