How do Custom Patches work?

Hi there,

How exactly do the "custom patches" work?
I create a bundle, but then, how do I say where it is applicable? Bundle requirements? Action Requirements?
Also, when will it run? Will it keep running all the time? Will it run once per machine? Once per refresh? Will it be reevaluated when the environment changes?

As an example:
- I installed App A version 1.0 with Zenworks.
- App A version 2.0 is released, and I want to deploy it to computers with App A version < 2.0, using the patch management feature
- How to target it?

Thanks.

Re: How do Custom Patches work?

To target a system at particular version, you could use the system requirement of file version in that particular bundle.

Re: How do Custom Patches work?

Ok,
But when will the patch get installed?

Also, when it becomes not required it will not show as patched, but as not applicable.

Re: How do Custom Patches work?

The need for the patch would be discovered when Discover Applicable Updates Ran.
Then it would be deployed during the scheduled patch deployment.

Generally Folks handle this thru Bundles not ZPM......

The Advantage for ZPM is that update packages are automatically created and delivered for you for software products native to ZPM.
Once you start having to bundle your own bundles.....ZPM delivery moves from simpler to more work and less flexibility.
