Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir source

Hi everyone,

I want to assign in batch with ZMAN a bundle to users that are in a eDirectory LDAP source but I'm getting always an "error 22": impossible to find path

Here is my command:

zman ba user test/appl_test CS/org/dominicm

"dominicm" is my eDir user for this test

After the command, it display: Error: Impossible to find the object "/Users/CS/org/dominicm"

Any idea ? thank you !

You have to specify the user "path" according to how ZCM has your User Source defined. You cannot use the eDir format.

Example:
Tree=ABC_TREE
O=ABC
OU=HR
CN=JSMITH

ZCM has User Source as:
ABC_TREE
with a context defined as:
O=ABC

In eDir the format would be something like:
.jsmith.hr.abc.ABC_TREE

In ZCM it's:
/Users/ABC_TREE/ABC/HR/JSMITH

So I think you have to do (assuming your bundle is DIRECTLY in the /Bundles folder)
zman ba user Bundlename /Users/CS/org/dominicm

(assuming that's where you user object really is at)
At least it works for me that way.

But you may want to find your user object in the ZCC and verify your path is correct. It will display the ZCM path at the top of the screen when you find the user.

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir sour

I modified my command by adding the main organizational O=

So my values are:
Tree=CS
O=CSSS
OU=ORG
CN=dominicm

zman ba user test/appl_test /Users/CS/CSSS/org/dominicm

But it doesn't work at all...

Does it work if you uppercase org /Users/CS/CSSS/org/dominicm?

And/Or remove /Users, something like CS/CSSS/ORG/dominicm?

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir sour

it doesn't work at all with these tries.... very weird

I test it on a Linux based Zenworks server but same thing

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir source

Dominicm,

I am going to suggest an SR - Novell has decided that they can manage
without me, and I'm being laid off next Friday, so I'm going to be a
little busy over the next week doing handover work, so I won't get time
to open a bug...

Did you do what I suggested, and "find" the user in the ZCC to see how ZCM "thinks" the path to the user is?

Remember, when you defined your user source in the ZCM configuration, that whatever "name" you gave it, is what it will show up as. There's no guarantee that your eDir tree structure is 100% identical to how *you* defined the User Source and default context in the ZCC.

You need to find out how ZCM is configured to the path to your user object before you can put the "path" correctly into the zman command.

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir sour

well yes I have type "zman user-list /Users" and I see my eDir Ldap source at the left. I've tested all the possibilities and nothing seems to fit...

What's the output in the ZCC when you find your user?
On the top portion of the screen you'll see something like:

Users -> SOMETHING -> Context -> somethingelse ->userid

zman user-list only shows the top level
Usersource name
ZENworks User Groups

If I use the zman command you entered, with the proper "path" to the users, the command works fine for me, but it took a few tries to get the "path" correctly before the error 22 went away.

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir source

Kjhurni,

kevin, is your server Windows or Linux? Craig has duped this on Linux,
but not on Windows...

Linux.

11.2.4 MU1
works 100% perfectly for me, but I did get the same error as the OP

until I typed the syntax in properly.

In *my* case, I called my user source, my eDir Tree Name:
ABC_TREE

In *my* case, I created ONE context in my User Source definition called:
O=ABC

Therefore, it just so happens (again, *my* configuration) that when I find my user, the Path in ZCC is 90% identical
In eDir, my "path" would be:
.jsmith.dis.oas.co.abc.ABC_TREE
in ZCC:
Users -> ABC_TREE -> ABC -> CO -> OAS -> DIS -> jsmith

So when I typed in the zman command, I did "this" which worked fine (again, I butterefingered the path the first few times):

zman ba user "Win7 Bundles/Sandbox Bundles/EDMS Patch 5 Prod-Win7" /Users/ABC_TREE/DEC/CO/OAS/DIS/jsmith

(note that my bundle folder structure is different than the OP)

And I did verify it showed up properly in the ZCC as well.

Re: Impossible to bundle-assign a user from a LDAP eDir sour

In my source, I don't have the top Organizationnal O=CSSS, I have only the ones defined under. Perhaps it's the cause of my error....

I will check this out, although I will test it on a another server not in production....
