Logrotating catalina.out

Hi,

I noticed that our ZCM primary server ran low on space, and started verifying. Found that the catalina.out ("/opt/novell/zenworks/share/tomcat/logs/catalina.out") file has grown up to 16GiB.

My question is, may I use logrotate to avoid that this file keep growing and growing again? If so, how to?

Yes you can use logrotate to rotate the catalina.out file - see
https://wiki.apache.org/tomcat/FAQ/Logging#Q10 but specifically you want
to use the copytruncate option.

If you let us know which OS your Primary Server is running we may be
able to let you know specifically how to set this up. Please post the
output from "cat /etc/*release".

Re: Logrotating catalina.out

There is an FTF for 11.4.3 that fixes some extraneous catalina.out logging that makes it grow quite large...........
This is also fixed in 2017 Update 1.....
Fix is it that it grows significantly slower............

For it not rotating.......an SR to try and get that analyzed could be useful too.............

Sorry for the omission. I'm running ZCM 11.4.3 on a SLES 11 SP4, virtualized in HyperV.

The machine has been running almost non-stop for over an year. This has happened before, about one year ago.
I believe that there's no abnormal logging, it's just lack of maintenance.

Re: Logrotating catalina.out

in 2017 update 2 has another fix. the fix is not only that it grows more slowly, but that there is a new recurring loader queue action to rotate the log: log.rotation.queue.id

For the record... logrotate'ing the file solved the problem.

Still running ZCM 11.4.3, and it seems that it will be so for a long time. 😞
