Lunching zapp after user login

We used to have nalwin (on zcm 11 all versions) opened after user login.
After upgrade to zcm 2017 we try to use the method, but with no success.
We try to use “c:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\ZENworks\bin\zapp-launcher.exe” and also try to use “C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\ZENworks\zapp\zapp.exe” with Assignment - Launch Schedule – user login and we try also zenworks login. Both didn’t work.
When I try the same method to open “c:\windows\notepad.exe” it’s working.

Any idea?

Thanks
Eyal

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

found it 🙂

2.3 ZAPP cannot be launched at startup#
ZAPP cannot be launched at startup to run in the foreground as it is already running in the system tray.

Solution: To launch ZAPP at startup in the foreground from the next login:

Go to %zenworks_home%/zapp.

Open the package.json file.

Search for the "show" property and change the value from false to true.

Save the file.

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

The JSON file is the correct answer....I'm not sure why you are seeing the error regarding NW.JS.
I would recommend an SR.

Zappwatch -> https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0o0Vj0WvLmrd28yQWZycHR5bFE MIGHT help....
It was designed to auto-restart the ZAPP Window if users close it.

However, the error you are getting is something new to me.........

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

IMPORTANT -> ZAPPWATCH is NOT a Novell/Micro Focus Tool. It is an unsupported util I wrote in AutoIT. Test and use if you like....but it is not supported in any way.

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

I found my problem 🙂
I also created a bundle that will open zapp.
now I disable it and it's open zapp without any problem

Thanks

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

So to be clear before I upgrade. Craig, is the Zenapp launching after login
no longer an option or is this a bug to be fixed and the poster performed a
workaround?

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

Yes, it is an option.
It is configured in the JSON file referenced above.

There is a defect currently open that in some cases it will auto-start even when not configured to do so....This seems to be a timing issue some customers see intermittently.
ZCM 2017 Update 1 should have a configuration option to try and prevent this.

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

Maybe I'm confused by the original post. I read it that he wanted it to open
at login and it was not hence the edit of the JSON file.

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

@CPPS,

You are confused because you have not upgraded to 2017 yet and ZAPP is very unique 🙂
Think of ZAPP as the ZENworks Icon and NALWin built into one. (Visually, this is how it looks.)

ZAPP does auto start by default, but it will only appear as the "ZENworks Icon" in the system tray.
(It is in the "Run" registry key....)
The JSON file can be edited, to tell it to also generate the traditional NAL Window automatically.
If ZAPP is running as the ZENworks Icon and is launched a 2nd time, it will also generate the NAL Window.
Yeah, it is a little odd, but I believe this did this to help with inter-process communications.

Re: Lunching zapp after user login

So this seems to be an option in editing a file on a single workstation. I
have 9400 WS where this has been the expected behavior since ZEN4. And
currently my student population has no access to the systray. Currently this
is a configurable option in ZCM to auto launch . But not in 2017?

I would recommend putting ZCM 2017 in a lab and working with it.

And Note - ZCM 2017 Update 1 will have Significant Updates to "ZAPP" and related functions, though nothing about the original posters issue.
