Memory Leak? Zen 10, Dot Net 2.0 or Virus Scanner?

Within our test roll out of users we're noticing a number of the Zen Clients (all our clients are 10.1, including our SuSe 10 VM server too) having the Novell ZenWorks Agent Service crashing at random times. While it seems to be isolated to a lower percentage of the test group the rest may not be using Zen objects as much.

I have gathered the following from the event viewer and to me it suggests a memory leak. The very last one mentions "The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\cache\zmd\fcb3f4a2b8314862a9f8a0a6b216019d.APPSTATE' because it is being used by another process. " which could suggest something like the virus scanner might be holding the process?

We are running PatchLink, TrendMicro 7.3 and Encryption Plus hard drive encryption.

Re: Memory Leak? Zen 10, Dot Net 2.0 or Virus Scanner?

(continued...)

Maybe our issue (or some other issue) is related to our Trend Micro Virus scanner locking files while scanning? I'm wondering if this is true after finding the following:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and if I do not get a reply I'm going to be contacting Novell for further assistance some time next week (we do have a service contract, but I've been trying to weed out all the craziness as to not overwhelm them when I called).

I have seen this many times and with ZFD 7 also. I always try to
exclude the cache directory from any live scans.

Re: Memory Leak? Zen 10, Dot Net 2.0 or Virus Scanner?

Excluding the cache directory from the live virus scan has not changed the issue. We're still having issues with the service failure. I have some new events to post:

I have seen this many times and with ZFD 7 also. I always try to
exclude the cache directory from any live scans.

Re: Memory Leak? Zen 10, Dot Net 2.0 or Virus Scanner?

I have done so. I've missed the first call back.

Oops. I like updating the SR on-line. It seems to work well.

Are you also using NON-ENGLISH Windows where you see this error, then there is a fix for this in version 10.2.2?

Or if you don't want to go to 10.2.2 then there is a patch for 10.2.1 also available: NOVELL: Downloads - ZCM10.2.1 group-policy dll files - TID 7004710 10.2.1

Re: Memory Leak? Zen 10, Dot Net 2.0 or Virus Scanner?

I hope the patch fix the problem that the ZMD agent crash @ startup too.

>>>>>
This patch contains an updated WindowsGPNativeHelper.dll which addresses the following issue observed in 10.2.1 on various Non-English windows platforms.

When group policies are enforced or unenforced on a non-English Operating System the following error message "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often
an indication that other memory is corrupt." is logged in the log file on the local device %ZENWORKS_HOME%\logs\LocalStore\ZMD-MESSAGES.LOG. This
message is displayed in the local language of the system where the problem is noticed.

The WindowsGPNativeHelper.dll in this patch is required only if the situation described in TID 7004170 is applicable to your environment.
<<<<<<

I get this message only if the agent crash, but 6sek. after the crash i get this error message:

>>>>>
Faulting application zenworkswindowsservice.exe, version 10.2.1.34421, stamp 4a7fae82, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.3053, stamp 4889d619, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001500a.

Weitere Informationen über die Hilfe- und Supportdienste erhalten Sie unter Events and Errors Message Center: Basic Search.
<<<<<<<

But i have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed !

I hope i kill this random error with this fix - better i pray before ...;)
