No 3rd party VNC Viewer works since U3

Greetings,

since Update to U3 I recognize that all 3rd party VNC Viewer don't work anymore with zrtWinVNC.exe 17.3.0.1265

TightVNC (we used before): Black Screen - Mouse and Keyboard works though.
TigerVNC: No Connection: Unknown encoding
RealVNC: No Connection: Trying to connect to VNC Server - RFB Protocoll error: unknown rect encoding 1313822284
UltraVNC: First Grey Screen - After seconds the screen shows up - but we can remote control only for 10 seconds - after that - again grey screen and we have to cancel UVNC connection.

Remote Control from ZCC works but it's much slower than TightVNC we used before U3.

Already tried all connection possibilities - no luck.

Anyone else noticed that?

Edit: Found something: TurboVNC (fork of TightVNC) works with Zenworks VNC Server in U3.
https://www.turbovnc.org/

plus: stable - very fast 🙂
minus: no Data transfer like in TightVNC. (anyway that's no big deal for us...)

I have not heard that....but have not tested...……..
May want to open an SR.

Note: You may also want to open an SR about the RC from the ZCC being slower.
This has been reported by a couple customers and always the more the merrier to help identify the root cause.
Not everyone sees the issue....my guess is maybe some combo of certain video drivers/windows settings, etc....
But the fact some folks see slower performance via the ZCC is under investigation....so any SR for that should end up being refunded.
The fact you are on Update 3 could be useful since I think most folks on the SR are likely still as U2 since U3 just came out.

If you can't open an SR please send me a private message on the forums.

Re: No 3rd party VNC Viewer works since U3

In Regards to Performance....
Please Try Changing the value for "Format and Encoding" from "Tight" to "Hextile" and then Reconnect to the device.
Please see the attachment....

#1 - Connect to a Device.
#2 - Change "Format and Encoding" to Hextile from Tight.
#3 - Disconnect and Reconnect to Device. Verify that the value for "Use Encoding" shows as Hextile.

Do you see an improvement?
Is it Significant?
How does the Performance Compare to a 3rd Party Viewer?

In my lab, I saw a significant improvement.
I did not do any testing of 3rd party Viewers for comparison.

Note: You may be able to set a default by following this TID.
https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7018446
(Note: I have not yet verified the TID. You may also need to Clear History when setting defaults to ensure the history does not override your new defaults...)

Re: No 3rd party VNC Viewer works since U3

Hi Craig,

did so, here are my answers:

Do you see an improvement? - Yes
Is it Significant? - Yes
How does the Performance Compare to a 3rd Party Viewer? - Still a bit slower as Turbo VNC but usable.

As I said before: You don't have data tranfer option when using TurboVNC.
OTOH TurboVNC starts much faster than VNC Viewer from ZCC. (Start Browser - Login to ZCC - Searching machine - starting Remote Control)

Maybe MF should change encoding from Tight to Hextile per default. 😛

Thanks for your effort Craig. 😉

Re: No 3rd party VNC Viewer works since U3

There will be a TID Shortly to detail how to change the default.
Supposedly a newer version of TightVNC will be included at some point as well. (Not sure which update...but it's in planning...)
That may tweak which is the fastest at that point...

Re: No 3rd party VNC Viewer works since U3

I can confirm you guys that we also have this issue with Update 3a in our zone. We can'T use TightVNC Anymore...

Will try TurboVNC as you mentionned ! Thank you for the solution.

Hopefully TightVNC will work again 😉

Note: ZCM 2017 Update 4 due in Jan/Feb is expected to resolve the issue with latest TightVNC.
I've verified the issue and fix using some unofficial test patches.

ZCM 2019, most likely Q2, should have even more VNC updates around RC.

Updated to U4 last week: TightVNC works again, incl. filetransfer which didn't work with TurboVNC.

Tanks Craig.
