Office 2013 deployment

Hello,

Is there a way to deploy bundle (office in that case) from zenserver without copying files to one of our file server or on the client computer?
I don't want to depend of a network location or be obliged to copy 700Mb or more on each client computer.

Thanks in advance.

Not entirely sure what you mean. You can do an administrative install to a
folder and then install from there, but generally will it be faster to
copy down the install files and install locally.

Re: Office 2013 deployment

Thank you AngerG, so we'll keep our installtion process that consists of copy down the file. What I asked was a solution to directly install from server as an .msi install but apparently it's not possible.

been a while since I've done this sort of thing....

You can store the install in the ZCM server, provided that you have room for it, I prefer to do a multisourced network install for things like office. I think that people who are telling you this have a false economy of bandwidth. Whether you copy the installer locally, run it, then delete it OR run the installer from a network share - the bandwidth used is the pretty much the same since you are COPYING the files locally regardless of the install method. It may be faster to install from the network as you don't have to wait for the initial blob of files to be copied locally, but in a slow link, bandwidth poor site, an after hours local install (or at least a copy to local ZCM satellite) would be easier to deal with from a traffic perspective.

That is certainly possible, but in my experience, copying down the
installer and then installing is a zillion times faster.

Re: Office 2013 deployment

Anders,

I think what he was hoping for was to be able to install directly from
the content-repo: that of course is not possible, because the files
(even if you mark them not to be compressed or encrypted) are not
stored in a format that would be usable for an install.

Ah. I see. I did not read it as such, but you may very well be right.

Anyway, the way I do this is:
Copy down the installer exe to a temp location. Source can be repo or a
mapped drive.
Extract the installer (installer.exe /extract:C:\Install\Office)
Put down a custom config.xml in the same dir as setup.exe under C:
\Install\Office
Run setup.exe

The install files need to someplace.........
The only two possible places would be locally on the PC or on a Network Share.
