Pls Assist: ZCM 11SP2 on SLES10SP4 TO ZCM 11SP3 on SLES11SP3

Hi All,

I currently have the following configured:

Current: Zenworks 11 SP2 on SLES 10 SP4 (x86_64)
The above OS is currently NOT Supported for Zenworks 11 SP3.... That said, the only course of action I am left with is:

Required: Zenworks 11 SP3 on SLES 11 SP3 (x86_64)
1. Upgrade the Server OS from SLES 10 SP4 to SLES 11 SP3 (x86_64) with Zenworks 11 SP2 on it.
2. Then, upgrade Zenworks from 11 SP2 to Zenworks 11 SP3

Has anyone done this. Any considerations/best practices?

Since you have 64-bit SLES10 SP4 the above should work so long as you
have installed the ZENworks 11.2.4 Update before step 1 as this adds
support for ZENworks 11 SP2 on SLES11 SP3.

Re: Pls Assist: ZCM 11SP2 on SLES10SP4 TO ZCM 11SP3 on SLES1

Woo Wee... Thanks. I forgot about it.
Unfortunately, this puts us in a predicament as it adds an extra chunk of testing into the schedule... where the best course of action based on objectives need to be revised.

An insight into the Objective: We are currently under pressure to incorporate Windows 8.1 machines into the environment and the current version of ZCM 11.2.0 does not support it.

The course of action available to us (now revised) are:

I) Upgrade From 11 SP2 to 11 SP3a (includes desired* fixes for Windows 😎

Steps:
1. Upgrade ZCM 11 SP2 to ZCM 11 SP2 Update 4

Q: Would the agents/managed devices too need to be upgraded apart from the servers to ZCM 11 SP2 Update 4 (i.e. since the objective is 11 SP3a)? If not, this would help considerably reduce the NEWLY added testing window.

Unless I am missing something, it seems okay given the following stated in the document for ZCM 11 SP3 on backward

compatibility:
You can upgrade the managed devices and Satellites to ZENworks 11 SP3 if they have any of the following versions installed:
ZCM (10.3.4)
ZCM 11 and later

2. Upgrade OS from SLES 10 SP4 to SLES 11 SP3
3. Upgrade from ZCM 11 SP2 Update 4 to 11 SP3a

OR

II) Upgrade from ZCM 11 SP2 -> 11 SP2 Update 5 (Based on release date)

Q: Any info on when this is expected and if this is expected?

NOTE: Update 4 with the respective patches is not an option. In retrospect, hot fixes/patches are something that are avoided unless a must with the knowledge on the depth/coverage of testing that companies in general go through based on the release type... Major, SP, IR, patch, hotfix etc.

Thanks a bunch!

*
- Windows 8, 8.1 or 2012 device starts in repair mode after update(i.e. the potential to make the device un-usable) for ZCM 11.2.4 System Update & ZCM 11.3 System Update
- System Update 'DO NOT REBOOT', suppress reboot option is ignored

When you've said ZCM11 SP2 do you mean literally that, that you have not
installed any post-ZCM11 SP2 Update? I'm particularly wondering whether
you have 11.2.1 which added support for SLES11 SP2.

Yes, so long as your managed devices have 10.3.4 or later then they can
go to 11.3.1 so no need to upgrade to from 11.2(.?) to 11.2.4 in between.

I've not yet heard of an 11.2.5 Update though that's not to say there
won't be one but obviously the focus is now on ZENworks 11 SP3.
