Printer Policies - Remove at Logoff?

We are running into an issue with printer policies. We are trying to assign printer policies by user, expecting that printers assigned to one user will be removed at logoff so that the next user who logs on will either have no printers available or get whatever printers are assigned specifically to them. What we are seeing is that, if a user with no printer policies assigned to them logs on after a user that did have printer policies assigned to them, the new user will have the previous user’s assigned printers available to them. If a user has different printer policies assigned to them and logs on after another user that had printer policies assigned, I can see the first user’s printers being removed and replaced with the second user’s assignments.

We are running a 17.2 zone, however most of our agents are still 11.4.2. I tried updating to the 17.2 agent on one workstation and saw the same behavior. I tried a few different versions of the iPrint client (6.06, 6.12, 6.15) and all behaved the same. I also tried adding RemoveZenPrintersAtLogout set to True in the registry key HKLM\Software\Novell\ZCM as noted in Printer Policy Troubleshooting documentation but it still behaved the same way. It appears to be a Windows 10 thing. I have a Windows 7 computer in the same zone with the 11.4.2 agent, with the same version of the iPrint client, that does appear to remove assigned printers at logoff.

Anybody else run into this?

Re: Printer Policies - Remove at Logoff?

I've not heard this reported before...…..

There can be issues of User Events not running at Logon for Windows 10 due to ARSO or other things...
So be VERY careful with your testing...….

You said....
if UserA has Printers logs off and UserB keeps UserA Printers if no printer Policy is assigned.
if UserA has Printers logs off and UserC Gets all New Printers printer Policy is assigned.

Note...Both cases involve LOGGING OUT and then LOGGING IN...….

Does NOT involve Shutting down and starting backup.
ARSO and OS Upgrade Related Credential Provider issues COULD cause initial logon issues after device startup.

There are also some known issues where User Policy may have issues in 17.2 under certain conditions....but that does not seem to apply since there is no claim of not getting Printers when you are supposed to.
In short...I would recommend an SR....I'm not aware of any known issues that match your description....

Re: Printer Policies - Remove at Logoff?

If you look at the iPrint.ini file, you can set printers to be installed at user printers, rather than workstation printers - https://www.novell.com/documentation/iprint-appliance-3/iprint_admin/data/bu4tinj.html .

AllowUserPrinters = 2 - "Only add user printers. All users (including Administrators or Power Users) that add a printer can install, view, modify, or delete the printer they installed. All printers are private or user printers"

That would solve your problem wouldn't it by not making the printers available to other users who log into that device?
