Reconcile Device Serial Number Info

Is there a specific way to have devices reconcile their serial number information. In swapping drives to new hardware the serial number travels with the drive. I followed the following doc: https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7014394

But I don't see how changing a config file will make that happen. Am I missing a step?

Cheers!

BTW We are now on v11.3

Re: Reconcile Device Serial Number Info

Clear out the conninfo.dat file as well from the %zenworks_home%\bin folder.

There is a bug on this at the moment.

I tried your suggestion and it doesn't appear to have had any effect.

Maybe I should further clarify. We image devices that have been previously registered, the device then gets a new GUID. Zenworks enters the GUID as the device serial number. I want to clear out all of the old information so that the correct serial numbers are in the inventory so that they match our device names (we designate by using part of the serial number as the device name). Did I do something incorrectly or is there a different procedure to that? Or can it even be done.

Cheers!

Re: Reconcile Device Serial Number Info

There is one ODDITY in ZCM.
It is that once a Device Object has a Serial Number, it will not change.
This is by design and for a reason, though I fully understand this may
not always be what is desired.

The 2nd Part is that is ZCM cannot READ the Serial Number from a Device,
it will fall back and insert the GUID.

ZCM 11.3 should be better at picking up the SN as some alternate
fallback methods for reading it were added in 11.3

Thus when you move a HDD that to a new PC and it has the old PC's Device
Object Identity, the Serial Number will not update.

However, I would expect that NEW devices will more often have the
devices actual Serial Number instead of GUID.
