Running apps from Samba share

Hi!
Can I run apps on ws via ZCC pointing to Samba share? I have set credentials in Conf. I mean, as I could/still can run apps via ZfD & C1 on ws (app object) using system account and eDir credentials.
I'm trying, but ... can't! Also, can't see ... why. Maybe I have credentials wrong? I tried with system and dynamic admin, same -- failed.
Any ideas?
More thanks, Alar.

Re: Running apps from Samba share

We do this for lots of software.

The first action needs to be Run Windows Executable, and the details need to be a net use to the server\share
command: net.exe
paramters: use \\server.fqdn.com\share <password> /user:<username>

Then the next action is the command to run your app/installer.

All actions should be set to run as dynamic administrator and wait for executable to finish.

Are you running a MS only environment? Since we have both "Novell network" and "Microsoft network" on our workstations the net use command would fail quite often due to timeout, when it first tries ncp and then smb.

Mixed with Novell (on OES) and windows.
We also extensively populate the badservername cache on all the clients.

What are your badservername cache settings?

Re: Running apps from Samba share

the key is: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetwareWorkstation\Parameters
Value: BadServer
Data: the FQDN and IP of any windows or linux server.

We've been doing this for years, even in the zen6 days. When we started having Active Directory joined computers, those users noticed that adding the windows servers to this key significantly improved reponse time when browse servers and shares.

Re: Running apps from Samba share

I would suggest asking in the Client Forum about that.

"Net Use" should work just fine w/o long timeouts or and w/o too much
effort to both NetBios and NCP Shares.
