Software problems with IBM RAD version 7

We have recently upgraded a handful of our developer PCs with IBM's Rational Application Developer version 7 from version 6. After the upgrade all of those PC's show no software installed, but everything else is showing up fine. When reload a machine from the OS up, and we install version 7 alone without upgrading from version 6, everything works fine. Uninstalling IBM RAD from an affected machine then reinstalling just version 7 does not fix the problem. Has had any similar problems, and if so what did you do to correct it?

Re: Software problems with IBM RAD version 7

Can you put the Client into diagnostic mode & see what error(s) are
reported?

Also check the Collection Server core event log.

Looks like something is causing the software scan to fail - you might need
to experiment with some skip directories to nail down exactly what - but
let's start with the logs.

Re: Software problems with IBM RAD version 7

There's nothing in there that I can see killing the software part of the
inventory scan - the erros in there are all unrelated.

The machines with the RAD 6-7 upgrade are definitiely being scanned using
the same Collection Option Set as the machines you used to test the clean
RAD7 install on, right?.

It does show the Client updating with the latest PRU on that scan cycle -
so maybe worth checking if the new PRU has resolved the issue...

If not, I think you'll need to raise a support call with Novell so they
can do some detailed investigation on this with you.

Re: Software problems with IBM RAD version 7

Hi, Adam.

Could you place the Collector into Diagnostic mode (Collector Option Set,
Collector tab, "Advanced" button, "Diagnostic" checkbox) for me? Then,
when you run the next Inventory Scan, a Collector Diagnostic Window will
appear. When the scan has finished (the last line in the Diagnostic Window
will read something like "Reconcile done"), go to the Diagnostic Window's
menu and select "File", then "Save All". Save to a new file - this will be
your Collector diagnostic log. Please post the contents of that log here.

Thanks.
