Unable to obtain the policy definitions

We are running a fresh install of ZCM10.1 on SLES 10 SP1 OES2. I have installed the Agent on around 50 workstations. All of the workstations are giving Unable to obtain the policy definitions from the policy service in the message log in ZCC. Part of the machines are located across a WAN and have a workstation setup specifically as a satellite server. The rest of the workstations are either in the same building as the server or located a couple of buildings away with fiber connecting them. This same error repeates every two hours.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

Me too! I noticed it because my Remote Mgmt policy seems not to be in
effect even though I tweaked it a bit and incremented the version.

Here's my log message from a workstation:

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

A couple of bits of information that I've obtained from another box that has debugging turned on. First, this problem happens regardless of the agent version (10.1 or 10.0.3) and I found this line in my log file before it got to the more obvious error:

[DEBUG] [09/23/2008 00:14:02.921] [1880] [ZenworksWindowsService] [23] [] [AssignmentManager] [] [Error code: 2, Assignment service is not supported by the web server.] [] []

I also looked at TID 3277197. I'm going to try to do the communication test that it mentions and see what happens but it almost seems like a problem with the updated Assignment Service in 10.1 (which my Server is - running W2k3 w/ sp2).

More info:

First, that TID is totally wrong. Sorry about that, I was looking at
something else.

On my server, it looks like the Assignment Service is working (or thinks
it is)

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

I'm trying to open an SR about this issue but there is a problem with my
entitlements. If there is anything you guys can do to help out with the
general issue, it would be much appreciated. In my case, the biggest
issue is that my RM policy has been set to defaults where it asks the
user for a session password or, more often, just won't let us connect
with either rights or a password. This is NOT good since we do LOTS of
RM rather than tromp all over our campus.

Is there any way to push a policy out with a bundle? I noticed that in
the registry there is reference to a novell-rm-policy.ini file but I
cannot find it anywhere on my machines. Is it possible to push this out
manually to get us working again?

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

This problem is getting worse. It's now not just policies that my
machines aren't getting it's EVERYTHING. When you look at the
properties of a machine, it shows NO bundles and NO policies. This
isn't good.

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

I've rebooted my server after shutting down the ZEN services and
renaming the log files so that I get new ones fresh on the reboot. When
looking at the old ones I see what look like DB errors. SQL Exceptions
and the like. After the 10.1 update I did do the schema patch. Other
than that, I thought that everything was going fine.

Re: Unable to obtain the policy definitions

Have you tried running 'zac cc' on one of the affected devices? This will clear cache. I have had similar issues. That sometimes helped. Also, is your agent registered with the zone?
