Using zen preboot with external pxe-server - informational

An old post had some details on how to chain 2 PXE servers in single subnet/network environment. I just wanted to share an updated version of what was mentioned and what is working. I wouldn't typically add this type of information in the forum but because ZCM does not have a delay in responding to PXE requests, I needed to find a way to have ZCM do the PXE chaining. As noted in other threads, this is not supported by Micro Focus.

This example is the current ZCM PXE server will have the option in the Preboot menu to choose another PXE server. In our case, the second PXE server is a Microsoft Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server.

Old Post on no PXE delay in ZCM:

Old Post on using to choose between 2 PXE servers:

I downloaded SYSLINUX 3.86 from here:

Extracted just the in the zip file under \modules directory.
On a ZCM 11 Windows server, I put the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\Zenworks\share\tftp

In ZCM 11, there's the Preboot menu. So in that same directory, edit the pxemenu.txt. In the [Main] section, add a new options line such as:

option = execute ; "Start Windows Deployment Services"; "WDS in Automated Mode" ;pxelinux.0 ; wds.cfg

In the same directory create a new file - in this example, wds.cfg

In the file add the following lines:

DEFAULT imaging
LABEL imaging
append <ip address of the other PXE server>::boot\x64\
Labels (2)

Re: Using zen preboot with external pxe-server - information

Really no need for a 2nd PXE Server for this........
Multiple ways of doing MDT Imaging without the need for a 2nd PXE Server for a fully automated Windows 10 MDT Install.
