Web Console Install Error!

Help! Please!

We are working on an initial installation for a production environment.
We have selected an Enterprise deployment with the following
configuration.

DB = Oracle 10g on a physical Win2k3 server
All other components (Manager, Collection, Task, Web Console) on a
Win2k3 server virtualized on an ESX host.

We can not install the Web Console. It errors during the installation
with the following Error: "Apache TomCat service is unavailable."

The install does appear to copy a couple more files but the Apache
Tomcat and Webconsole Updater Service services are not installed. A
reboot does not resolve the issue.

Are any logs being created in the local temp directory
%temp%/_ISTMP04.DIR\_ISTMP0.DIR\

Re: Web Console Install Error!

Yes, there are logs. Here are the entries in the 3 log files created
after a failed install of the web console component.

Interesting....Does the Oracle DB have a password policy restriction?

Re: Web Console Install Error!

I just checked with our DBAs and it does not have a password policy
restriction set on the database. I asked, "So I should be able to set
and use a 4 character password and connect to the DB?" The answer is yes.

Any other ideas?

Re: Web Console Install Error!

Could it be caused by the password policy from AD on the server? The
password policy for the local computer is 8 character minimum with at
least 1 number and 1 symbol.

Yes that is very possible.

Re: Web Console Install Error!

And very likely - this will block all database creation/config parts of the
install.

Unfortunately the install password for NCSystem cannot be changed- you need
to temporarily relax your AD password rules on that server while you run
the ZAM install.

Re: Web Console Install Error!

We did disjoin the computer and apply less restrictive password policy
but it did not resolve the error.

Unfortunately, We are still experiencing the same issue. The web
console won't install on the same server as the rest the components. I
quickly was able to install the web console on a temporary test box.

Is it an issue with the enterprise deployment? Can the web console be
run on the same server as the task and collection services?

Yes it can be.
Does the failing machine contain multiple ODBC connections or other
database contections?

Re: Web Console Install Error!

Jared,

We only have one ODBC connection on the server, which connects to the
ZenAsset Oracle 10g database. Peter was able to install the web console
on a different test machine and it installed and worked fine. So we're
still unsure why it won't install the web console component on the
desired server.

Re: Web Console Install Error!

Well, ideally we'll want to eventually get the web console on the same
machine. So should you or anyone have other ideas, please pass them along.

Re: Web Console Install Error!

Additional follow up,

After a conversation with Bob Reynolds of Novell sales support (Works
with Channing Quist). Our issue may be related to Windows Server 2003
SP2. He though it was not supported yet so we may have to roll back.

I have not received confirmation from him yet. But do you have any
confirmation on SP2 as the source of the possible conflict?

Thanks,

Peter
