Where is a basic ZCM 10 imaging guide for Windows XP?

Hi,

Previously used Zenworks 7 with sysprep to image Windows XP Pro machines without issue. Each machine would be unique and register to Zenworks, worked great. We had one image that worked on all machines regardless of vendor. Now with ZCM 10, the process doesn't seem to be the same. Is there a current guide somewhere? I have searched the forums and cool solutions and just can't seem to find that one guide that covers it all.

Do I still need sysprep with ZCM 10?
Do I need to unregister the machine first and uninstall the ZCM agent, removes registry keys, etc. which some of the documentation I have found indicates?

Surely there is an easy way?

Nothing has changed except perhaps details pre-installing (or not
pre-installing) the ZENworks agent is concerned.

The Easiest way may be to install the agent as part of the Sysprep process.

Re: Where is a basic ZCM 10 imaging guide for Windows XP?

Hi,

Thanks Craig. Where would I find these details? I am wondering if these details are along the lines of what is mentioned in this post? Imaging steps using ZCM 10.3.2

Boot up PC.
Remove Zen Adaptive agent & reboot - tell it to remove machine from zone.
Download full Zen agent to local disk
Disconnect NIC
Run the Agent, but DON'T reboot at end.
Run REGEDIT
Browse to HKLM\Software\Novell\Zenworks\PreAgent and delete the GUID entry
Browse to HKLM\Software\Novell\Zenworks\Remote Management\Agent and delete any subkeys with machine names on them.
Browse to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\System and remove the entry pointing at ziswin.exe (Leave the System key in place)
Run C:\Program Files\Novell\Zenworks\Bin\Preboot\ziswin
Click Edit, clear imagesafe data, and save - Click No to the question about "just imaged" if asked
Run sysprep -mini -quiet -reseal - this will prep the machine and switch it off.
Cut image. ( I assume cut image, means reboot and capture an image with imaging via a boot cd)

Then I guess once the machine comes back up, it will re-register itself to ZCM? or this can be done manually via zac reg?

Re: Where is a basic ZCM 10 imaging guide for Windows XP?

I went through this process, and now when I login to the Novell client, I get a 2nd login screen for ZCM, which I normally wouldn't see when logging into the Novell client.
When the ZCM login appears, and I try to login as any user I get Unable to log into the network because the login credentials are incorrect. There is a variety of reasons why this could appear, but unsure why this would come up now.

It registered the machine the ZCM correctly, I just can't actually login to ZCM. I tried unregistering and registering the machine again, but it didn't help.

Re: Where is a basic ZCM 10 imaging guide for Windows XP?

I had to repair the casa.msi in C:\Windows\novell\zenworks\bin\ then restart. Any way around this? Is something missed during the process to prepare the machine for imaging? During the remove Zen Adaptive agent step, there is a prompt to keep or remove CASA, which I chose to keep it installed as is. Perhaps it needs to be removed as well at this step?

Also I have noticed that ZCM seems to be giving additional information during the login screen, I have never seen before. They are informational messages I assume:
ZCM Processing log into user source
ZCM processing post login
ZCM proessing pre-desktop , etc.

Re: Where is a basic ZCM 10 imaging guide for Windows XP?

I've follow all steps, but i have a couple of questions.
I've deleted the entry HKLM\Software\Novell\Zenworks\PreAgent\GUID, not the value of the entry GUID
--> is that rigth?
--> When i reboot, everything seems right. The machine register ok, but the entry HKLM\Software\Novell\Zenworks\PreAgent\GUID, doesn't apear anymore.
When it says to delete HKLM\Software\Novell\Zenworks\Remote Management\Agent and delete any subkeys with machine names on them, do i have to delete localhost to..
