Windows 10 VM to physical laptop

I'm guessing this is more a windows VM issue rather than ZCM but someone here may know the answer. These forums rock.

I've started my first attempt at deploying Windows 10. I've so far done what works for Windows 7 i.e. build a VM patch it, add commons software, sysprepped it, taken an image with ZCM and then sent it down to a laptop. While that works with windows 7 (yes I add correct drivers later) my windows 10 laptop hangs at boot. I get the MS symbol and the circle going round for eternity,

I'm guessing I need to do something different with my windows 10 VM before I take the image. Can someone tell me what? 🙂

That is exactly what I do, but you need to use sysprep. This guide (for win7) might help:
https://gshaw0.wordpress.com/2013/03/06/zcm-11-imaging-megapost-part-1/

Basically what I do is:
- Have a clean sysprep image
- A command in the sysprep xml kicks off a PowerShell script that installs ZCM and Novell clients

Re: Windows 10 VM to physical laptop

HI thanks for this. I do use sysprep but in the past I haven't added drivers until the machine has booted. Current ly my win10 "imaged" machine won't boot so I guess I need to add drivers as part of the sysprep.

Do you see any error messages? It really should boot, unless it has some very weird hardware.

Re: Windows 10 VM to physical laptop

Keep BIOS, UEFI, and Secure Boot in mind.........
How is the VM Configured?
How is the Target Device Configured?

Try Turning off SIDChanger, Not Required with SysPrep...which is required....

Re: Windows 10 VM to physical laptop

Try Building the Win10 Image without a Network Connection....Updates can Break Sysprep...Let the Updates come down later.
If you need Network Connectivity during the Win10 Build.....only enable it when you know you have System Update Disabled....which can be re-enabled later....

Re: Windows 10 VM to physical laptop

Hi again

I've had some success and have a working image of sorts. I would like to start tweaking it to make it a more general image with drivers etc.

This may be a dumb question. (it probably is) but do I have to sysprep shutdown and then take the image each time I modify my unattend file or can I just change and insert the new unattend file into my exiting image using image explorer?

I've not tried it with Win10 yet, but the priciple should be the same. I
always just edited the unattended file in the image, in fact I even had
several of them and picked them via the fileset. Last but not least, you
can also modify (overwrite) it with an addon image.
