Windows 7 SP1 Prerequisite not in patch management

Reading the notes for Windows 7 Service pack 1 it has a prerequisite of MS
update 976902 which as far as I can tell is not offered up by patch
management. Does this strike anyone else as odd to not have it available in
patch management. I would also think that SP1 would not be offered for
install if I didn't have this update installed.

If I run windows update I am offered up 976902 but not SP1.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976902 is the prerequisite

Re: Windows 7 SP1 Prerequisite not in patch management

Jim,
it's strange, because I have installed SP1 on several machines now, and
I certainly didn't install that update first

Re: Windows 7 SP1 Prerequisite not in patch management

Doing windows update you are not offered SP1 unless 976902 is installed and
976902 is offered up for installation. I have not tried to install SP1 yet
without this update to see what happens. I will try on a VM shortly.

Re: Windows 7 SP1 Prerequisite not in patch management

FYI noticed 976902 is now listed in patch management.

Re: Windows 7 SP1 Prerequisite not in patch management

We have a number of satellites (currently ~20 - going to have ~130) across 768K links. I am concerned about Windows7 sp1 downloading itself into Patch Management at some point (Does anyone know when/if this is going to happen?)....and then automatically caching to our Satellites. If I turn off the auto cache to satellites, I was told by Novell that even if the patch IS on the satellite and even if the workstation has the satellite listed first as a content server, the workstation will ignore the satellite for Patches and go straight to one of the Primaries. So....we do have the auto cache to Satellites, but...I am quite concerned that this will cause some issues when SP1 is trying to cache to 130 locations at night. Any suggestions or thoughts?
