ZCM 11 - First round of patch(es)?

Hey,

I just found the TID for 10.3.2 (7005892) and it appears we dont have any of the issues thats fixed in this, meaning I can rather think on upgrading to 11.

Any idea's or such regarding the first round of patches for 11.0? Like 11.0.0a/11.0.1 or so 😉

In LAB testing, I have not "found" any bugs of note, though its hard even for me to go production on a .0.0 product 😉

Theflyingcorpse,

at this time, the next planned update is 11.1, around the middle of the
year

Shaun,

a general question regarding ZCM updates: why don't you publish smaller fixes
as system updates instead of patches (like the ones for 10.3.1 during the last
months) that need manual installation? I think this has been done in the 10.0.x
days, but nowadays it takes month between updates and only big updates come to
us customers that conveinient way.

Cheers, Lothra

Re: ZCM 11 - First round of patch(es)?

Lothar,

because every System Update takes a lot of testing, so it would mean
that the "big" System Updates would be further apart, or there would be
fewer bugs fixed...

why not publish all FTFs marked as "beta, untested - use at your own risk" to
save us at least manual downloads and the potential for human error during
installation? At least for those patches you put up at
http://download.novell.com/patch/finder/ anyway? People would still have to
decide whether to apply the patch or wait for the next big tested update, but
patching would be a lot easier.

Kind of strange that a full-blown client management tool that includes patch
management and sw distribution components is not able to distribute all of it's
own fixes, don't you think?

Lothar,

because just the process of creating that and running a basic test would make it
unworkable - and since updates are cumulative, would you always want to install
fix 1,2, and to get 4?

I already help there - I produce sample bundles (wherever possible) to deploy
updates, but that takes me perhaps an hour or 2 on top of the process I have to
follow to release the patches.

of course it is - that's what a System Update is for... 🙂

all things are possible, but would you rather have 1 bug fixed, and a nice
automated way to deploy it, or 5 bugs fixed?

Shaun, as always I want it all 🙂

Btw. I find it a bit hard to believe that the bug-fixers are the same peple who
package and test system updates, does it really work that way at Novell? And if
so: can't you find yourself some script kid as intern to do that?

Lothar,

it's the testers who are the same 🙂
