ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

Hi All,

If I need to stop the SQL connection from the ZCM side...which daemons
would I actually stop? It looks like I could leave 5-9 alone, but I'm
not sure on the others.

novell-zenworks-configure -c Start

Specify the daemons you wish to control and what action to perform:
Daemons:
1- Novell ZENworks Service Monitor
2- Novell ZENworks Management Agent
3- Novell ZENworks Server
4- Novell ZENworks Loader
5- CASA Authentication Token Service
6- Novell ZENworks Preboot Service
7- Novell ZENworks Preboot Policy Service
8- Novell TFTP Service
9-[ ] Novell Proxy DHCP Service

Thank you for your help,
Mr Mister

Stop All of them.
If you are breaking SQL Connectivity,
you do not want any of the services running.

Re: ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

Hi

I would think it's the server part, and I don't think that ZENworks will run without. But if i'm wrong I would very much ike to know 😉
Why do you need to stop it?

Regards

It was a request from our SQL DBA. The hardware that is running the SQL
DB needed an emergency reboot and was very slow comming up. ZCM was
trying to connect before everything was up and it generated 19,000
errors in the DB.

Thank you all very much for the replies!

Re: ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

"novell-zenworks-configure -c Start" can be used to both Stop and Start
all ZCM services in an orderly manner.

This is a good way to do this.

The "Start" option is actually used to both STOP and START services ;>
The "Start" option is also case specific.
Upper Case "S" and lower case "tart"

Re: ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

Okay, thanks.

While we are on the subject; do I need to be carefull when rebooting the DB server? Should I stop alle the ZENworks servers before that? I'm also the SQL DBA so it would be nice to know 😉

Re: ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

It would likely be preferable, but I'm not aware of known cases where
this causes an any long-term issues.

The main issue could be the client slowness while they talk the the
services and the primaries try to talk to the db.

When the services are down, this is less of an issue.

Re: ZCM - Stop which daemon to disconnect SQL connection?

Okay, well right now our clients don't talk that much with the servers, but I think that I'll make some guidelines to be used when I have to reboot the SQL server.
Better be safe than sorry.

Thanks
