ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

Hi..

Normaly we install the zen agent during a sysprep installation (unattended
after drivers and stuff is installed) - typically by cmd files.
We have now tested a installation of zcm agent - the full preagent ... We
are installing in a cmd file with the commandline option -x to suppress
reboot. But ... the exe releases the cmd files when the prestuff is started.
That means it does go on - and we have no control ...

Is it possible to install the agent - so I have full control during the
installation ? now it just informs me with a systray ballon that´s
installing...

We tried to unpack the exe files and found a long list of msi files.. we
could install them manually - but that´s not a pretty solution.

Please fix this in the next release...

Best regards

Tue Nørgaard

With Zen 7 we just installed the agent on our image, then sysprepped. The
agent was always there and has always worked fine. Is something different
with Zen 10 that requires you to install the Adaptive Agent differently?

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

Marcus,

There is no MSI agent! Its an install package 😉

You may find issues installing the agent into the base image too, because
AFAIK the agent writes its GUID into its cache, so even if you un-register
the agent the GUID is still there

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

This is what I would do (and probably WILL do when we gt to that point).

Using the free AutoIt v3 scripting language, we would use a script like
the following:

Note: I have not actually run this code, so there might be a syntax
issue, but the logic should be about right. When I get a chance, I'll
validate it

;specify what the window title is that appears when you are prompted
whether or not to reboot. When you figure out what the text is, add it
between the single quotes below
Dim $WinTitle = ''

;specify what the window text is that appears when you are prompted
whether or not to reboot. When you figure out what the text is, add it
between the single quotes below
Dim $WinTitle = ''

;specify what the control name or text is for cancelling the reboot when
you are prompted whether or not to reboot. When you figure out what the
text is, add it between the single quotes below
Dim $ControlName = ''

;Run the agent installer, but do not wait for it to complete before the
script continues
Run ( 'C:\Misc\zen-agent-filename.exe' )

;Pause until the reboot window appears
WinWait ( $WinTitle, $WinText )

;Focus on the control that cancels reboot
ControlFocus ( $WinTitle, $WinText, $ControlName )

;Press the button that cancels the reboot
ControlClick ( $WinTitle, $WinText, $ControlName )

;Exit script
Exit

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

Watch word-wrap!!!!!

;If the script is not running with admin privileges, will bring up the
UAC dialog box
#RequireAdmin

;Run the agent installer
;Change this path to match with the location of your agent installer
Run ( 'C:\Misc\PreAgentPkg_AgentComplete.exe' )

;Wait for the reboot window to appear
WinWait ( 'Reboot Required', 'Select OK - to allow the reboot now,
Cancel - to abort the reboot.' )

;Focus on the 'Cancel' button
ControlFocus ( 'Reboot Required', 'Select OK - to allow the reboot now,
Cancel - to abort the reboot.', 'Cancel' )

;Click on the 'Cancel' button
ControlClick ( 'Reboot Required', 'Select OK - to allow the reboot now,
Cancel - to abort the reboot.', 'Cancel' )

;Pause until the window has closed
WinWaitClose ( 'Reboot Required', 'Select OK - to allow the reboot now,
Cancel - to abort the reboot.' )

;Exit the script
Exit

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

Tue Nxrgaard,

I think we are making this to complicated. 🙂
Go to
http://www.novell.com/documentation/zcm10/zcm10_discovery_deployment/data/batxjbu.html

This page explains how to create a custom install of the pre-agent(the ZCM
agent)

If someone could test this for me as I probably can't until Monday late.

Here's how I would do it. Let me know if it works.

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

having the same problem.
Using the -x is fairly good, but I can't script it using start /wait
PreAgent....exe

The preagent will extract files, run the service, and stop it's process,
leaving the control to the service., so the start /wait will end, and
continue the rest of the batch.

I've used the -d to extract files, but what should I run next ?,
equivalent to run the preagent.. ?

Is this using Sysprep to launch the install? Did you create a custom
stand-alone installer?

Re: ZCM agent installation - silent during sysprep...

I don't use the sysprep cmd option, cause too many problems with that.
I'm doing an autoadmin logon on the first boot, and run a batch script
there, which install couple things, like antivirus, zen agent, and so on.

The custom deployement is giving the same result as the default, as it's
only repackaging the agent.
