Zen10 newbie, Client configuration

Hello all.
Our school system is upgrading to SUSE and Zen 10. We are upgrading from Zen 7. In Zen 7 you had a place in a policy to setup the Novell Client. Now, with Zen 10, there is no policy for NT Client Configuration. I have installed the .adm files and have most of my settings. Does anyone know how to create location profiles with the .adm files? We use a Teacher and Student location profile in the drop-down location list. Any ideas? Thanks to anyone who has insight.

B,

when you say "the adm files" do you mean my client config files?

ADM it is Administrative Templates for Group Policy. Creating custom profiles can help to do modifing registry more transparent.

I think, that question was "Where Location Profile settings are store in registry?"?

Re: Zen10 newbie, Client configuration

Bronislav,

ah, I thought you had this:
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/182/client-49x-adm in there I
have the default profile, and with some work you could use it for
others, but I warn you, it's not straightforward, the client was not
engineered to be controlled by group policy... 😞

Re: Zen10 newbie, Client configuration

That is correct. I have the "client-49x-adm" files. I can see how to setup the default profile. I was hoping someone found an easy way to setup the client with ZEN10. With the absence of the Workstation Package with the NT Client Configuration in the new ZEN10, I have to find a way to setup the client with zenworks.

Re: Zen10 newbie, Client configuration

B,

I wrote those ADM files, and I can tell you that managing those
location profiles is difficult. From what I remember, you would need to
create the profiles manually on one machine, check the registry to find
the GUID for those profiles (default is
{1E6CEEA1-FB73-11CF-BD76-00001B27DA23}) then duplicate the profile
section in the ADM for each new profile. That did work in my testing.
