Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

We are currently using zenworks 11.4.0. we are currently having an issue where some of our workstations are becoming unmanaged. Meaning the devices lose all policy and bundle assignments.

We have tried to resolve this issue remotely by talking our staff through doing a zac cc and and zac ref / zac ref bypasscache on the device and this still fails to resolve. The only way to resolve this issue is doing a zac ref -g.

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

presume you mean "zac reg -g".
Perhaps you are deploying devices via Imaging, but the GUID info was not properly cleared in the image.
As a result, newly deployed devices could stomp on previously deployed devices from the image.

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

We use ENGL to image our machines. All Devices are unregistered from Zenworks before re imaging. We are unable to find any duplicate GUID's.

Jameswebb1990,

well Craig & I should be able to work this out between us then 🙂

Curious why you unregister before reimaging?

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Thank you.

We unregistered as we find that majority of the time if a PC is registered with bundles it tends to fail during the build.

Jameswebb1990,

you should open an incident with us: that should not be a problem...

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Do you mean log a Service request about the ENGL issue? or for the issues i am experiencing with Zenworks

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Jameswebb1990,

open an incident with ENGL about the failure during the build, we don't
like to see unhappy customers...

Shaun,

You likely know between 99% to 110% of this (:>) but since you recommended an SR on your side I will just mention that somewhere in the docs there are steps for cleaning the ZCM agent registration.
The most common failure in the process that we see know is the failure of the ZISD to clear.
The most recent case I saw was where the scripting of ZISWIN.exe failed because the agent was not configured to have Imaging Components (aka ZISWIN) installed so we just placed it on the image manually.

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Craigdwilson,

part of our methodology involves the use of a custom agent with no
initial web service data: that way the agents doesn't register until
we're ready for it. We also clean ZISD ourselves, and report in our
logs what happens, so if that's the problem we'll know about it. For
now I think I'd for us to work with James to see why he needs to make
the adjustment during the build, that doesn't mean that I won't send
him back if it turns out to be a Novell problem, but at least he'll
have more to go on!

The issue can be one and the same.

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Craigdwilson,

we're working with James to see what's happening, but of course it may
be related to reconciliation perhaps...

Re: Zenwork 11.4 Devices becoming umanaged randomly

Yes, I have no idea what his happening......My 1st guess was an imaging / guid issue as that is the most common cause currently.
He is in good hands......you know where to find helping hands on the Novell side if necessary.
