nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

I am trying to upgrade a couple of test machines from zenworks 6.5 sp2 to 10.1.1 to test migrated applications and after a "successful" upgrade or so it appears, I then reboot, log into Novell and try to launch nalwin.exe and receive the following error. I have tried to install 10.1.1 using zenworks 6.5 to push out this install and have also installed the complete adaptive agent direct from the web (http://servername/zenworks-setup) and have the same issue. I have checked the windows event viewer but do not see anything in regards to this and have checked the properties of adaptive agent and it appears that the user is logged into the zone?

Machines are Win XP sp2
Novell client 4.91 sp4
Old agent - 6.5 sp2
ZCM client - 10.1.1

How was the nal 6.5 window being launched? From the program startup group,
a login script? Hopefully the issue is as simple as that two copies are
being launched.

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

No we put a run command in the registry so nalwin.exe would run every login, but with this upgrade I have removed the key just for testing purposes. So once I log into novell, then I launch the nal window manually and get that error. We have configured our 6.5 clients with a custom splash.bmp screen but I have also tried to remove that and the same thing happened. I also tried logging into my 6.5 machine, manually removed the agent, rebooted and then manually tried to install both version of adaptive agent (network and complete) and then rebooted and the same thing happened.

We do have one windows acct on every computer that is our main windows users that is configured to auto login so the users only log into Novell and not windows, at this time we are not using dlu, soon though...

Jared, are you one of the moderators within the Novell Config Advanced Admin course? I am currently in attending that course online...

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

No errors in event viewer at least at the same time I try to launch nalwin.exe

Do you think our autoadmin logon is making this happen?

Thanks,
Andy

Bummer, logs usually help.
It could be if nal is being launched twice or if nal is being launched in
a special way.

Are you sure that you only have nal being launched from the registry only
and not also from the programs startup folder?

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

One unconfirmed condition was where a device was upgraded from ZDM 6.5 and was using the NAL Application Window watermark feature.

Disabling this resolved.

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

Do you have any particular development software on the PC?
I'm wondering if some debugger installed on the PC is catching jumping up
and causing this.

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

What do you mean by development software? It is our current standard image, with some application that are forced to the device such as adobe reader, symantec and other applications. I am building a flat os machine with novell 4.91sp4 and zfd 6.5sp2 and then going to try to upgrade the client to see what happens.

Do you think it would have to do with our installations on our server (zenworks-setup location)?

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

No I dont have anything installed of that type of software.

I installed a xp sp2 fresh on a pc...then installed novell client 4.91sp4 and zfd 6.5 sp2 ran through our basic updates then rebooted again. Then finally installed zcm 10.1.1 onto the computer rebooted and logged into novell then launched nal window and still get that error?

Any ideas?

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

What happens if you manually remove ZFD6.5 first? Or it was never installed.
Im just trying to guess what is unique about your setup.

I would not think 6.5 is that unique.......but I dont know.

Re: nalwin.exe error - user-defined breakpoint

Well I installed xp sp2 onto the machine but did NOT log into novell, I then manually ran the 10.1.1 installation from zenworks-setup and then rebooted and was able to launch nalwin.exe without that error. Then I took that same base xp image with novell and zdm 6.5 sp2 installed on it and logged into Novell (with no apps associated to that user) then ran the zcm installer via web and I got the error message when I launched nalwin.exe?

Do you think it is related to some cache or something? I checked the nalcache and folder does not exist, maybe something in the registry?

Any thoughts on what I have found?

Thanks,
Andy
