several workstations won't scan

I have several workstations that when I goes in on web console or in the
asset manager program and tell it to scan, it comes back and tells me that
it was unable. The log file shows this:

.. I am running Zen asset amangement 7.50 IR4, all clients are loaded and
is running..

Can someone tell me what I can do to fix this?

Client State = Invalid can cover a range of issues (from what I have seen,
pretty much anything other than the Client being ok!)

What do you see if you enable the diagnostic window on one of these
machines?

Can you connect to these machines on port 7461 using Telnet? (it should
echo back the ZAM version).

Has this happened since a recent upgrade (7.0 to 7.5), or an update - say
IR3 to IR4 or a PRU update? (I've seen it take several days for the
Clients to all be updated after a 7.0 to 7.5 upgrade, when 1000s of
Clients are involved - IIRC some went to Invalid after updating, until the
machines were rebooted).

Have these machines ever scanned successfully? What has changed since
then?

Do these machines show up as Client Is Connected = Yes in a Manager query?
